The Punisher: 3 movies, all of which wasn't very successful. That being said I am gonna ask and answer the following question: Should The Punisher get a third remake or go to t.v? Here's my thoughts

We all know that Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson each played Frank Castle/The Punisher and each one was a little different. Although as far as character portrayal goes, Thomas Jane and Dolph Lundgren are dead even on how to get the Frank Castle part right. While Ray Stevenson played the more violent, bloody and gorey Punisher. He didn't have much of a character to him in my opinion.

So should he get another remake? In my opinion, Yes. I think there are plenty of opportunities to get The Punisher right. I don't think T.V would be any better and plus unless you put it on HBO or something, alot of the bad stuff gets censored. In films, you are limited to a budget. In television you are limited to a budget and to what you can and can't do (again, unless you're one of the movies on demand channells.) The Punisher is obviously based off of a comic book so you have so many stories and characters to base your movie off of. Obviously start with the origin, then for sequels dig a little deeper into his mythology and his character and his villains.

Again should he get a remake? Yes, because the property has potential and the possibilites can't really be explored in television.

Whatya think? Leave your comments below. Remember, be respectful. Please and thank you.

With shows like the Walking Dead on AMC, I don't see why they couldn't do a Punisher show justice...on AMC at least. TWD is pretty violent and gory, as well as some of their other shows.

Anyway, The Punisher is one of those characters that could ALWAYS have good stories made for him. He is just fighting mob bosses and criminals, so there is no need to have any outrageous special effects to showcase any powers.

I think a TV show would be the way to go. I wouldn't say that about many Marvel characters, but it kind of works with Punisher. As long as they can keep the cheese away.

Oh, and keep in in the MCU continuity so they can possibly have him cameo in movies or at least make references to him.

I think if they took a Punisher movie seriously it could work. Instead of focusing on him killing the mobsters and gangsters and scumbags, they should turn a focus onto Frank Castle. I would love to see a movie where the Punisher is interwoven with Frank Castle's days as a Marine.

And I agree with CorndogBurglar, he will ALWAYS have stories to be told. You could go so many ways with this character, I could see it as a movie or a TV series. Personally I would want a movie, but that's just me.

I'm on the same page as Corndog in that it should be done as a TV series. AMC would do it great justice. Just look at TWD and Breaking Bad if you doubt they could make an outstanding MCU-related Punisher series. It would be mind-blowing! Better than anything else they could do with the character in the medium. The only ties needed would be subtle ones like a newspaper article about Frank in IM3 or Cap2, simple things like that but no actual crossovers. There has been talk that a Civil War could be a basis for future Marvel films, if so, we all remember the highlights of Punisher's role in the comic event and that could be the bridging point. But that is a lofty goal I realize and I'd be content with the lesser ties. It'd just be so cool to hear Chris Evans or RDJ talk about how he's a psycho. WIN!!!

DocHorrible, that'd be great to do for a series, first 2-3 episodes show him in his occupation and with his family, let us get attached to them so that losing them is more powerful to us. Show the happy Frank and establish him so that the audience remembers that man and how the this loss has changed him. A series would be so badass.

Tom Jane. That is all.

I don't think Marvel Studios is going to remake The Punisher into a movie over the idea of giving him a tv series. "Punisher: Warzone" made less than one third it's production budget worldwide. "The Punisher" made a few hundred thousand dollars more than its production budget, domestically. The original Punisher movie wasn't even released in theaters domestically. A tv series seems much more likely.

Yes, I know your article was about whether or not you want a Punisher tv series or a remake, but I still felt like talking about which possibility is more likely. Anyways, as others have mentioned above I don't think censorship is going to be a big problem, and what's wrong with putting the series on HBO anyways? Since censorship seems to be your only reason, I guess I'll end, my comment, here.

I noticed that the only reason you really list as why you

I would like to see Marvel Studios give theyre version of The Punisher a go...but if it does get made to a tv series, i would dream of it being on HBO so that its no holds barred and can still interpret the character freely and uncencored while still being just a television show.

Man, I grew up reading Punisher. I still have the first 20 or so Punisher and Punisher: War Journal comic books (war journal with incredible art by Jim Lee).

I am incredibly bitter about the failures of all 3 movies. This was a comic made for a movie and how they screwed it up 3 times is a tragedy.

I do not want to see another remake or TV show with the Punisher; I can not handle another failure. I would love to see him in a cameo, perhaps in the Daredevil reboot.

The Punisher is mostly based off of the character "Paul Kersey" from the movie adaptation of "Death Wish", which came out the same year as Frank tried to kill Spider-man. The novel was published two years beforehand.

Not to diminish the character in any way, I know he's earned his share of fans over time, but from an outside perspective, I feel there is very little this character has to offer that wouldn't be offered in any other vigilante movie.

Ultra-violence aside, his stories are fairly generic (although the writers have managed to make them interesting as comic books) and forgettable.

I don't think the Punisher should continue unless a larger fanbase is established, and a greater demand for it materializes. Three movies, three failures, in three decades. Enough is enough.

Punisher needs to have Spartacus level lack of restraint on violence even on amc you cant do it Walking dead only gets away with so much because there shooting zombies. Get Garth Ennis to write it and put in on a Pay channel. Do like Dexter where each season has a villain that he kills his way to.

I've always thought Sons of Anarchy was a great gritty show. I was excited to hear that Fox picked up Punisher because that is the same network that owns Sons of Anarchy. It would be neat to see Punisher show the same nights SoA plays on FX, they'd go well together. I just wish the SoA creator was working on Punisher.

I think The Punisher fits better on TV than film.

its terrible how three movies can do so badly and making it a tv show wouldbe an end to frank castle as well hes got to niche no powers justan overwhelming need to root out evil and seperate them from their eternal souls and condemn them to hell i mean when you say it like that it sound samazing if they can do something epic prove that hes human in an inhuman world maybe have him pair up with wolverine or ghost rider or spiderman to defeat blackheart or feral or anything now if the yakuza and mobsters could be less of a for front cuz gangster isnt gangsta anymore we gotta update and re-evaluate just throwing frank in the middle of a room of mob bosses and watching them dying cant go on for 3 hours and be expected to be amazing hes done many amazing things in his career as a hero we need to let the world know this

i feel it could work as a show if they put it on FX or showtime , cause then it could be gritty and more punisher like. and like someone has already stated, base each season around one specific villain and have him kill his way through the ranks.
