Pajiba is reporting that director, McG (
Terminator Salvation) is looking to direct the comic book adaptation
R.I.P.D. (aka Rest in Peace Department) after he shoots the romantic comedy
This Means War.
The Dark Horse graphic novel is about two cops, one recently dead and a gunslinger who’s been dead for hundreds of years who work on the Rest in Peace department - which is the police department of the dead. Nick Cruz was murdered by an unknown assailant, at the height of his personal and professional life. Now he's traded a hundred years of service to the R.I.P.D. in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him. Unfortunately his search will take him to Hell and back -- literally!
Ryan Reynolds is already confirmed for the recently deceased officer and
Pajiba also states that Zach Galifianakis was as at one point on Universal’s wish list for the other lead. One of the comic book's strengths is the relationship between the two leads and strikes a balance between comedic and dark tones throughout.
The LA Times is reporting that Universal wants to fast track this movie and may not wait for McG's schedule to open up. Since Reynolds is looking to shoot the comedy
The Change-Up and then
Deadpool, the star and director's schedules might end up working toward the same timing.
