Twitch's live interactive science fiction series Artificial has evolved every season to include more and more interactivity aspects and consistently improve the technology used. Evolving to Artificial: Next and then Artificial: Remote Intelligence to roll with the pandemic's punches, Season 4 pushes even further by introducing live motion capture actors performing roles as digital AIs, while also dividing the audience with Artificial: Factions.

With such a complicated production involved, each person is certain to have a different perspective, so we lined up several of the talented members of the cast and crew for interviews to find out what their thoughts and experiences on Artificial: Factions are like.

We've gathered five interviews for you below, starting off with the Emmy Award-winning creator Bernie Su (Emma Approved) himself. Dr. Ruby actress and Miss Asian America Jennifer Field is second, with The Last of Us II and Captain Marvel actor Stephen A. Chang following her. Rounding out the chats are the motion capture actors themselves, Emily Morales Cabrera and Jae Kim.

Bernie Su - Series Creator:

Bernie Su walks us through the ways each prior season of Artificial stepped up the interactivity, and he helps talk us through all the ways he's managed to outdo himself in the newest installments of the series. He talks about how LifeScore will continue to be used to make the music interactive and reactive to the tone the audience sets in the chat.

Obviously, we dug in to find out how extensive the motion capture is and how the businessmen played by Basco and Chang will face off in the new episodes. We learned about the virtual AI and what the intent is behind each of them and how they are represented as well as how they represent different members of the viewing audience.

Jennifer Field - Dr. Ruby:

In this chat with Artificial's Dr. Ruby actress Jennifer Field, we discuss the newest season. We also chat about Jennifer's recent stint on General Hospital and what's to come for her Artificial character in the future. We also spoke a lot about her experience being crowned Miss Asian America 2006. We talked about the ceremony and her continued involvement in the pageant as well as her relationship with the other winners, amongst plenty else!

Stephen Chang - Sebastian:

We had the incredible opportunity to connect with multi-talented actor Stephen A. Chang ahead of his debut in the newest season of Artificial. Speaking about his return as Sebastian for Season 4, we discussed how Artificial: Factions differs from previous seasons - primarily the virtual animation and motion-capture additions. With Stephen having provided the mo-cap as well as the voice for Jesse in The Last Of Us II, he was very familiar with the technology being brought in to up the ante in Artificial: Factions.

Jae Kim - AI Kai:

In support of Season 4 of Twitch's interactive sci-fi series Artificial, appropriately titled Artificial: Factions, I got the awesome chance to chat with Jae Kim, the motion capture and voice actor that brings Kai, the A.I., to life in the show. Check out what Kim has to say about the process of performing motion capture in a live and interactive setting!

Emily Morales Cabrera - AI Ember:

Actress Emily Morales Cabrera is the woman of the hour! Emily provides the voice acting and the motion capture performances that embody Ember, the A.I. from Artificial's newest season, Factions. We dug into her experience with the technology and what it was like for her to join a series that features so much interactivity.

What do you guys think of these chats with the cast and crew? Are you excited to see how things turn out in tomorrow's finale? Be sure to sound off in the usual spot with your thoughts!

Artificial: Factions wraps up season 4 with the live finale at 5 pm PST on Twitch.

Damn that thumbnail scared me when opening the homepage on my phone.

Anyway, didn't know this was in the fourth season already. Though this concept would probably be done with two seasons.

@bkmeijer - So in Season 3 they introduced LifeScore, which is music that adapts to the chat so that it tonally matches what the audience is feeling, and I think that really upped the game for them. It was made by Tom Gruber, who made Siri, it's pretty complex and really cool. It's little aspects like that that allows Bernie to keep upping the interactivity factor, I think that's probably why it's still going.

Also, with S4 it's the first time they've used mo-cap live for digital AIs, so they try to change it up - the core audience is pretty hardcore also so maybe that is part of it too.

@LiteraryJoe - yeah I guess it makes sense that new introductions and a strong core audience helps keep it going, but still it sorta surprises me.

Kinda waiting for the deepfake use though. That sounds more promising than the mo-cap to be honest

@bkmeijer - I didn't foresee deepfake becoming such a big deal, but it totally has become one. I'm excited to see how that goes forward.

@LiteraryJoe - I kinda did, given thats its a form of machine learning. But even then, not at such an exponential rate. Could be interesting fir a S5 I think
