Terrifying Rita Repulsa Concept Art From Max Landis' POWER RANGERS Pitch Knock Socks Off Next Year's Reboot
Most fans seem to agree that the designs in the upcoming Power Rangers reboot aren't good, and this new piece of concept art from Max Landis' scrapped version will make you wish his take had happened.
Elizabeth Banks may look pretty great in that bright green Rita Repulsa costume, but it's not exactly the best of designs. Of course, the same can be said for pretty much every character in the upcoming Power Rangers reboot as fans have been critical of everything from the main team to Alpha 5 and the generic looking Megazords. However, would it have been better if the movie had gone for a version of Rita like the one below? Designed by artist Matt Frank, it hails from Max Landis' treatment in 2013.
The Chronicle writer's take was ultimately passed on, but this artwork points to a much more serious version of the Power Rangers being brought to the big screen as the monstrous Rita looks a lot less cartoonish and silly than the one Banks will deliver when the reboot reaches theaters early next year.
"Max Landis approached me back in 2013 to do some concept art for #PowerRangers when he was doing a script treatment," Frank explains. "I had other obligations at the time and could only do a quick Rita, so I pulled from his concept of the 'ancient evil' and made a kind of 'Xeno-Rita' – enjoy!"
