Avatar came out in late 2009 and went on to make close to $3 billion worldwide, and after that massive success, Oscar-winning director James Cameron announced that there would be four sequels.

Avatar 2 was first announced to be released on December 25, 2017, and was then delayed to December 2018 - however, Cameron has officially revealed that the sequels will be delayed yet again and won't come out anytime soon.

Here is his statement:

"Well, 2018 is not happening. We haven't announced a firm release date. What people have to understand is that this is a cadence of releases. So, we're not making Avatar 2, we're making Avatar 2, 3, 4, . It's an epic undertaking. It's not unlike building the Three Gorges dam. So I know where I'm going to be for the next eight years of my life. It's not an unreasonable time frame if you think about it. We're full tilt boogie right now. This is my day job and pretty soon we’ll be 24-7. It's pretty exciting stuff. I wish I could share with the world. But we have to preserve a certain amount of showmanship and we're going to draw that curtain when the time is right."

Cameron sounds like he's obviously very busy trying to perfect the sequels to his most personal project.

Are you still excited for the Avatar sequels? Were you ever? Sound off below!

While I did overall enjoy the first one, I'm not really to pumped in this being a whole franchise. The only thing about this that'll be interesting to see is how the visuals will look with the new technology.

I don't know a single person out there who's saying "OH BOY, 4 more Avatars!! That's EXACTLY what I want!" I genuinely hope Cameron just decides not to make these. I seriously doubt audiences would be stoked about it anymore,

@superherofan21 - ...well it's Cameron. His name alone sold the first movie into being the highest grossing movie of all time.

@TyrantBossMedia - dude it was up against Alice in Wonderland, which was also 3D and had a pretty big box office take despite competing with Avatar. That really isn't enough. It was the name and new experience.

I'm honestly not even sure if it'll be a box office smash almost 10 years after the first one released..

@chriskrispy - Are you sure? Because his releases since Titanic have all gone up to number one in box office. And I'm not just talking about for that week but of all time. Also with the case of Avatar it wasn't part of an already established franchise or based on a real world event.

@TyrantBossMedia - You're right. That is pathetic being the director of the two highest grossing movies of all time.

@TyrantBossMedia - It was implied buddy. Pretty strongly implied by that. And if the dude was really out purely for the money, we would have seen the entire set of Avatar movies by now. Maybe you're projecting over the fact his films beat your favorite franchise in the box office.

@Origame - While yes, the man is in a business of the arts, he's still absolutely looking to make a shitload of money here. Even if that involves taking forever to make his sequels because he wants to make the absolute most money possible

@chriskrispy - That's not how business works. If he wanted to make the most money he'd make sure he'd release the sequels asap after the first one to capitalize of the hype. But he's not.

When it comes to Box Office, Only Cameron can beat Cameron.
Not even SW was able to top Titanic.
Amd it's just one silly movie, no franchise no nothing...

Damn lucky bastard makes a movie once a decade and makes billions out of it.
Avatar was not even THAT great, but the marketing was the shiiit.
