While Steven Spielberg was unable to reunite with 5x Academy Award-winner and frequent collaborator John Williams for the Ready Player One: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack due to the latter's commitments to the Star Wars franchise, the legendary director did manage to team-up with another ace maestro: 2x Academy Award-nominee Alan Silvestri, who composed the iconic scores for Back to the Future, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers.

In a statement given to Entertainment Weekly, Spielberg teased Silvestri's eagerly-awaited upcoming score, which he describes as an intoxicatingly original composition that, in a film filled to the brim with references, somewhat surprisingly doesn't feature too many familiar beats. "While all sorts of culturally iconic references populate Ready Player One, the score that Alan Silvestri composed is completely and intoxicatingly original. It’s bound together by multiple themes that identify plot and character and is infused by such percussive adrenaline and soaring strings that Alan has made Ready Player One appear to fly." Silvestri provided some additional insight, offering his mindset while composing the score and briefly detailing his experience working with one of the greatest directors of all-time. "An invitation to travel arrived just about a year ago, not just to a place, but to a time. Actually, to a number of times — primarily the year 2045, along with a few stops in the ’80s. A rather detailed map had been drawn by Ernest Cline and the Captain of the voyage, none other than Mr. Spielberg himself. What could one possibly do or say? Pencil in hand, one firmly fastens one’s seatbelt, says ‘Sir, Yes, Sir,’ and prepares for the trip of a lifetime."

WaterTower Music will release the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to download on digital platforms, including iTunes and Amazon, on March 30th. A limited edition two-CD version will then arrive in stores on April 6th, followed by a special double vinyl on July 19th. You can pre-order by heading HERE.

Between this and Infinity War, Alan Silvestri's gonna have himself a great month.

I feel like less people would be interested in this film if it lacked the nostalgic elements. Interested to see if the movie is any good regardless.

@MsSensitivity - Did you read the book?

I just started reading this on the plane today. The dialogue is a bit cringey at times, but overall quite interesting. I also was not expecting it to be nearly as dark as it is

@Spidey91 - Can you shut up already? Yeah, we know you don't like it and would surely write a better book and an even better movie.

@Spidey91 - is me not liking this movie and what it represents “not lettinf anyone have fun”? for [frick]s sake, some of you are acting like i’m barring anyone from enjoying it just by me personally not enjoying it. i’m not your mom. what i think shouldn’t matter so much to you. so unless you’re seeking some sort of validation for the things you enjoy, just chillax.

I was really expecting a more techno theme, its not bad, just took me off guard.

I can't really say when I've hated a Spielberg movie, so I'm sure it'll be entertaining

Civil War's greatest sin was rewriting Captain America's theme. Alan Silvestri captured Captain America beautifully in music, while whoever wrote the score for Civil War gave Cap a discount Iron Man 3 theme.

If Infinity War does nothing else, they had better let Alan Silvestri give Cap's theme back. Alan Silvestri kills it with the hero themes. This track proves it. Hopefully he is allowed to let loose on Infinity War.

@SisterSunday52 - I never agree with you, but I’m kind of your side on this.

The weakest part of Civil War was definitely its score. You’re only wrong in one thing: it didn't even have a Cap theme. The only theme is “divided we fall” and the rest is basicly filling. Alan Silvestri’s Avengers score was beautiful, and I couldn’t be happier that hey brought him back for Infinity War. Even Elfmann’s rendition of The Avenger’s theme was overdone and very stale.

Saw this yesterday with my friend in a preview screening. I had managed to avoid all the trailers and it was interesting to see a film without knowing anything of what it was about.

The film is a lot of fun though. If you strip away the effects and references it might be a bit of a flimsy plot, but it broadly raises some questions about where society is going and just trying to spot the sheer number of pop-culture references is worth it. It's solid popcorn fun basically.

I'm not even interested in how much money it will make. That is how uninteresting it is to me. Maybe one day a few months from now I will pirate it and skip through it like I do Walking Dead. I'll check out the easter eggs and be done with it.

The lack of Rush in the soundtrack is disturbing.

It appears some people didn't learn their lesson from earlier This week, tisk tisk tisk. Hearing that the movie improves on the book brings get praise, as much as I liked the book, some instances after reading it more than Once became a chore to read. But the ending makes up for it. [frick] the haters! [frick]ing suxors!

i hope theres a separate soundtrack with just pure 80's songs and remixes of them as weve heard in the trailers ( Depeche Mode's World In My Eyes )

Lol, the haters are funny. No reason for that kind of reaction to this movie. It's just going to be a spectacular experience on the big screen. That's what it was made to be. Not the greatest story ever told. Not a monolith of originality. Just something cool to see. My parents actually want to see this movie, so, hell, I'm in.

I'm sure the main theme probably isn't the best track in this movie's score. It's good enough though. I've never been a big fan of Alan Silvestri, but I give him credit, he hits some homeruns sometimes. Avengers, Back to the Future..
