You would think with Donald Glover's various high profile and acclaimed ventures in acting on shows like Community and Atlanta, as well as writing on 30 Rock or his music career as Childish Gambino would mean that he's already living his dreams. According to Glover, however, this wasn't truly the case until being cast as Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Speaking at a press conference for the film, Glover revealed just how much he wanted the role. "When I heard they were making these, I told my agent 'if they're making anything with Lando in it, I have to be Lando," Glover said. "And he was like, 'I hear you; I don't like your odds.' And that was exactly what I needed to hear. I really did audition like it was the only role I wanted in the world, because it really was. I'm just really happy to be a part of this. My dad imprinted me with this kind of Star Wars longing, because it does feel like the Bible to me in a lot of ways."
Glover's casting in the role, made famous by Billy Dee Williams, was met with praise as soon as it was announced and all the initial reactions to Ron Howard's spin-off film point to him stealing the show. There's even been speculation that his character might get his very own solo film in the future.
