STAR WARS: Harrison Ford Explains Why He'd "Rather Not" Return To The Franchise

Harrison Ford returned to the role of Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens but it sounds like we can forget any flashbacks or Old Man Solo spinoffs as he's made it clear he's done with the franchise.

Han Solo was murdered by Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in one of the franchise's most devastating moments but that hasn't stopped some fans from hoping Harrison Ford could return somewhere down the line. A younger version of the character will obviously be played by Alden Ehrenreich in that spinoff but surely the real deal could show up in flashbacks or another spinoff?

It's been public knowledge for some time now that Ford isn't the biggest Star Wars fan and reluctantly returned to kill the character off but he's made it clear that his involvement with the franchise is over despite the fact that he's going to be coming back to the world of Blade Runner early next month.

"I mean, I’m finished with Star Wars if Star Wars is finished with me," Ford teased, leaving just a glimmer of hope that he might reprise the role before adding that he would "rather not" return so he can focus on new projects (like, er, that Indiana Jones movie). "I can’t imagine [returning]. But it is science fiction. I’d rather not. You know, at this point I’d rather do something else. Just because it’s more interesting to do something new." Honestly, it's hard to imagine where his Han could return!

Plus, with Mark Hamill set to take on a leading role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the J.J. Abrams helmed Star Wars Episode IX, that's something for fans of the original cast to look forward to (especially as Carrie Fisher obviously won't appear in the latter). What do you think about Ford's comments? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on this news in the usual place.

Thank god Mark doesn't think this way and is willing to make more movies, i mean we all know why, but still... :p

They waited too much to make another set of SW movies, i know why, but it's unfortunate...

@Doomsday8888 - I don't think they killed off Han just because Ford wouldn't return. Ford is returning for more Indiana Jones films so I don't see why he wouldn't play Han in just 2 more films for millions of dollars.

I'm sure he'll be back digitally in future Star Wars stories.

Well you know... Han Solo.. um .. SPOiLER... died.
So that's a good reason for Harrison Ford to say it won't happen. Then there's also the fact Ford's been wanting Han Solo to be killed off since episode 4.
