VIDEO: 'STAR WARS Poetry' Shows The Visual Symmetry Between The Originals & The Prequels

They may have struggled in the story department, but the Star Wars prequels rarely disappointed on a visual scale. Love 'em or loath 'em, this video may make you see them in a fascinating new light. Talented editor Pablo Fernandez Eyre has put together a beautiful comparison between George Lucas' much-maligned second trilogy and the original movies that preceeded them.

Eyre's 'Star Wars Poetry' focuses on the astonishing visual symmetry between the two sets of films, highlighting a number of different ways Lucas' took drew inspiration from his old masterpieces through side-by-side comparison. The 2-minute long edit is set to the sound of Ludivicio Einaudi's beautiful 'Experience' - making the actual viewing experience all the more chilling.

What are your thoughts? Does this video give you a newfound appreciation for George Lucas's later work, or is the mere memory of young Anakin too painful for you to ever get over? At the very least, it should get you excited for The Force Awakens, which hits theatres December 18!

It's no secret Lucas just copied himself. He had no idea how to direct a movie for the prequels.

Not sure if Lucas meant to pay homage to himself or just had no idea what he was doing with the prequels. Either way they suck. Can't wait for TFA though!

People keep bringing this up like it's some artistic masterpiece instead of just realizing that Lucas failed to come up with original imagery and rehashed the original visuals and tied them to a shittier story.

The one plausible example out of them all was Anakin watching Palpatine being electrocuted in contrast to Luke being electrocuted. That contrast is one I find to be alright.

The important thing to remember is that Lucas has been relentlessly mocked for that whole "It's like poetry...they rhyme" bullshit (along with the infamous producer who basically admitted he threw shit into every frame of the prequels: "It's so dense!".

There's a difference between having parallels, and straight-up copying yourself to the point of parody. Just ask Peter Jackson, with what he ended up doing with The Hobbit movies and all the "rhymes" that he made between that and the original Lord of the Rings trilogy.

So the video is DEFINITELY well put-together, the soundtrack is great, and it must've taken a lot of time and effort...but ultimately, it's pretty damn misguided IMO. Still though, nice find Minty and ImKennyPowers!

If you want to see more mockery of "It's like poetry, they rhyme!", just carve out an hour of your day and watch RedLetterMedia's reviews for each prequel. You'll NEVER look at the prequels the same again.

Well, it is also called making the same movie twice.

And I'm just going to leave that ^^ here.

Enjoy.

Sorry but in a world of reboots and remakes, give us something new! Tell new stories! Don't rehash everything!

They should make one for Juarssic park there is defiantly lot of visual symmetry in those films as well.

visual symmetry= trying to make the new films look like the old ones subliminally. Kinda insulting really. It wasn't like poetry, but shoved down your throat. But in light of the new trilogy, I can find magic in all things STA WARS.

Have to kinda muscle thru Phantom Menace. Its near the ended thats pretty boring. But Clones and Sith have enough candy to get me thru a mini marathon- the pay off, of course, being episodes 4, 5 and 6.

Can't wait to have the entire extended blu ray of all 6 Middle Earth films. I'll never get thru the marathon.

@SauronsBANE

The Red Letter Media reviews of the prequels completely blew my mind on them. I see them in a completely different light and can never look at them with my childhood innocence I did when they first came out. One thing I always find hilarious is Lucas on video said the ending to Phantom Menace is a mess with 4 different endings battle in space, Gungan battle, battle in the palace, and the jedi duel. The ending is so cluttered and messy you just don't care anymore. They pointed out in the review and I completely agree. The reason the prequels fail so badly is Lucas had no one willing to tell him no. No one working on the films had the balls to tell Lucas how stupid so many of his ideas were and no one to review his scripts. Everyone was either too afraid to stand against him or to meek to speak against the great George Lucas. If some people working on those films were strong enough to tell Lucas no maybe the prequels could have been great. The best we ever got out of the prequels was the third one was okay.

Star Wars poetry????? Hmmmmm............................

There once was a Jedi from Nantucket

Vader didn't like the joke

Lol the hate for the prequels is so unfounded its unreal, red letter media make a short movie nitpicking phantom menace and the suddenly the prequels are worse than dragon ball evolution, ridiculous.

I enjoy the prequels, as well as the OT. I am sick of all those "true" SW fans that pretend the prequels don't exist. They may have their flaws, but they are canon and also have their advantages. Deal with it.

For some reason every time I see somebody write TFA I keep thinking about Cap's first movie.
