Arnold Schwarzenegger Shares Production Info About TERMINATOR: DARK FATE; Says Footage 'Looks Great'

The sixth entry in the Terminator franchise is currently going by the title Terminator: Dark Fate and will ignore all the films that came after the universally acclaimed Terminator 2: Judgement Day.  It will see the return of franchise icons Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, along with legendary filmmaker James Cameron who is serving as a producer alongside director Tim Miller (Deadpool).

Speaking with The Arnold Fans at the Arnold Sports Festival, Arnold Schwarzenegger provided an update on Dark Fate. While the legendary actor did say he was reluctant to reveal much about the film itself, especially since the studio is watching, he did divulge that they have "successfully completed filming of it in Budapest," for which he spent three months in the city.

Asked about working with Tim Miller, Arnold described the director as "very, very talented" and well organized and "a pleasure to work with," saying he can see why Deadpool was so successful. He said Miller is "an expert with visual effects and special effects and with stunts" and was very comfortable coming into a veteran franchise and taking command of all the actors, young and old.

Arnold also talked about the dynamic between Miller and James Cameron, saying that Dark Fate is in good hands with those two. He described Cameron as being heavily involved in the movie, helping guide creative decisions to make sure that everything was to his liking since Terminator is ultimately his baby.

It was a very interesting film to do with Tim, the dynamic, between him and with Jim Cameron producing. So Jim Cameron is right now directing Avatar films so he’s taken on this enormous challenge and he’s very busy with that BUT he’s a control freak and as you know, Terminator is kind of his baby so he does get involved in the filming so there were interesting discussions about which direction to go with a certain scene or how the dialogue should finish or what the certain look should be of an individual and all that stuff so there was a big collaboration between Jim and Tim Miller. I feel it was in good hands with both of them.

Finally, Schwarzenegger said that Dark Fate has a budget that is "somewhere between 160 million and 200 million dollars," dependent on visual effects which are currently being worked on. However, while the movie isn't finished yet, he did reveal that he has seen some footage and described it as terrific and exciting: "I’ve seen 15 minutes and it looked great and I was very excited about it.”

@HeavyMetal4Life - Except the Schwartz quote. Realistically what is he gonna say? "I just saw 15 minutes and, well, we have a LOT of work to do."

@Goldboink - lol, true... but there's a lot of good reasons to have hope for this movie. Cameron, Miller, Arnold, Hamilton, Gabriel Luna.

@HeavyMetal4Life - True that.

I think it is time to just do a COMPLETE reboot with a more well thought out multi-story arch that can be translated to a franchise!

@Forthas - do a reboot and forget about Terminator and Terminator 2!?! You crazy!?!
Forthas
Forthas - 3/6/2019, 8:23 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - NO...not forget about those films, but do a remake...picture it

Margot Robbie - Sara Conner
Joe Manganiello - Terminator
Tom Hardy - Kyle Reese

Then in the sequel...

Jack O'Connell - As young John Connor
Alexander Skarsgård - As the T-1000

Then they continue with original films from there....

@HeavyMetal4Life - I'm with you. The reason I go back is because of my love for the originals. Disregard the originals and then you disregard the original fans.

@Forthas - there been two reboot already salvation and genysis

@zeon00 - Read above...if you REMAKE (not just reboot) the first two films then you have room to close logic gaps in the first few films - like when judgement day is supposed to occur! You can then make films that are not dependent on an aging cast that keep trying to hand off the franchise to younger people.

Sometimes modernized remakes are better than the original films like Little Shop of Horrors, Oceans 11, 3:10 to Yuma, and The Fly.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 3/7/2019, 7:19 AM
@Mrsinister - exactly. There's a reason why those films haven't been remade yet; they are all time classic, monumental movies (especially T2). You don't just remake those. That would be like remaking The Godfather or something; you don't do it.
Mrsinister
Mrsinister - 3/8/2019, 8:10 AM
@Forthas - But Terminator fans dont want a remake or a reboot. I wanna see where the story goes next. Ya sometimes remakes do well Terminator was a game changer in the world of Sci Fi; there is no topping those films. Also, whats wrong with aging actors? You ageist or somethin? Sorry but I think you're wrong on this one. Either way, the sequel is coming and Tim Miller is a genus so and many other ACTUAL Terminator fans are pretty excited.

@Mrsinister - I am a Terminator fan...who elected you to speak for all of us?

There is nothing wrong with aging actors when they are in roles that are appropriate for their age. For Terminator which happened over 40 years ago, there is a disconnect from the generation that grew up with the films and the poor performance of the films that happened after Terminator three created a time gap where you have to turn to actors 40 years later to pick up where they left off.

@Forthas - We disagree but fortunately for me they aren't making a reboot like you want.

So what’s the tag line for this series? “If at first you don’t succeed, try 4 more times?”

Honestly they’ve been given so many chances to make this series work. How’s about if this sequel doesn’t work, they put the series to bed?

I think they should have done a trilogy set during the war or in the aftermath of victory, skip the whole time travel thing.

At this rate you have to ask yourself, if they are sending so many terminators back, why not have sent 10 to kill Sarah Connor.

After 1 & 2 the story was complete, no stories feel tacked on and forced.

Also, why doesn’t Skynet just not start the war or go back in time and Nuke Sarah’s house first.
