AVATAR: FRONTIERS OF PANDORA Story Trailer For Upcoming Video Game Feels Just Like James Cameron's Movies

Ubisoft has released a story trailer for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and to say this looks and feels just like James Cameron's movies is an understatement. Will that prove to be a good or bad thing?

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be released on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC this December, and there's a huge amount of excitement among fans of the franchise.

A new trailer has just been released (via SFFGazette.com) which offers additional story details about the hero's journey and the clans they will meet in what looks to be an epic new adventure set on Pandora.

Developed by Massive Entertainment with James Cameron's production company Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney, the game is set in the never-before-seen Western Frontier of Pandora. There, you play as a child of two worlds, born Na'vi but raised by the RDA.

Fifteen years later, you are free, but find yourself a stranger in your birthplace. The game will offer players the chance to reconnect with their lost heritage, discover what it truly means to be Na'vi, and join other clans to protect Pandora from the RDA.

While Cameron's movies have been record-breaking financial successes, people either seem to love or hate them. This game certainly feels like it's part of the Avatar franchise, and with elements of Far Cry mixed in, even Pandora's biggest detractors might find they'll have fun with this one.

Take a look at the new Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora trailer below.

In Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, we'll get to play as a Na'vi who was abducted as an infant by the RDA and trained in The Ambassador Program (TAP) to serve human interests on Pandora. When the RDA evacuated Pandora during the Battle of the Hallelujah Mountains (as seen in the first Avatar movie), you were put into emergency cryosleep. You wake up 15 years later, finally free from the RDA, but lost and unfamiliar with your home world.

From there, players will set out on a journey to discover the world that was kept from you, meeting other Na'vi clans and learning about Na'vi culture. Along the way, you'll discover that you're a member of the respected Sarentu clan, believed to have disappeared years before. As your character journeys across the Western Frontier, you'll meet the Aranahe, a clan of artisans known for their weaving skills; the Zeswa, a proud nomadic clan that lives in symbiosis with gigantic beasts called Zakru; and the Kame'tire, a reclusive, enigmatic clan skilled in healing and potion-making.

As a rite of passage, you will bond with your own banshee, or ikran (as the Na'vi say). Together, you will be able to explore Pandora from a new perspective: that of the skies. You can also fish with them, perform acrobatics above the clouds, and fight against the RDA together. You can also expand your exploration possibilities on the ground by learning to ride a direhorse.

Once again, the RDA poses a threat to Pandora's flourishing ecosystems. With your knowledge of human technology and weapons as well as your Na'vi background and skills, you are uniquely equipped to push back against the RDA. It is up to you to gain the trust of other Na'vi clans to rally them to protect Pandora because working together, the Na'vi are stronger.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set to be released on December 7.

Feels just like the movies?

So it looks beautiful, and it sucks?

@DocSpock - just saying gameplay wise it's basically far cry. Read that how you will.

So if it’s like the movies then basically it’s a game that’ll put me to sleep while playing it?

@AnthonyVonGeek -

Exactly!

Looks excellent! I am not sure how much more world building is possible with this IP. That could turn out to be a big problem down the line. Other franchises like Star Wars can introduce new planets, droids, alien races, and Jedi/Sith mysticism. Avatar is basically built out and does not seem to offer new ideas, only nuanced differences of the same concepts. This game has many of the same beats as the film so it does not offer anything we have not seen before.

@Forthas - good point. Only reason I'd be picking this up is because I wanna see more of Pandora

The Rock tugged his tail between his legs and went back to Wrestling. Plenty of spicy articles to write about that! 😉

The graphics look amazing BUT I just wish that it was playable in third person view instead of first person.. what’s the point of playing as a Na'vi if all you can see is a pair of blue hands🙄

@Spidernoir - exactly, I hate first person, If I play a video game I wanna see the playable character, this is why I never played Cyberpunk 2077

Think the whole Avatar hype is over already, so this game is aa year too late. I might pick it up in a few years after I wanna see more of Pandora again when Avatar 3 releases

Oh, good. They kept the bestiality.

Gotta say this state of play was a pretty big let down. Just a bunch of games we either already knew were coming (and barely anything new about them) but also just random sh!t like the splatoon rip off or baby steps.
