As we're sure you'll recall, Rebecca Ferguson (Dune: Part Two, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning) revealed that she refused to work with an "absolute idiot" actor after they exploded in anger while shooting a scene, and her comments prompted a lot of speculation online.
While being interviewed for the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Ferguson was asked when she feels she's been "proudest of using her own voice." The actress then recalled working with one unnamed co-star who grew frustrated while filming a scene and took it out on her by "screaming" and saying, "aren't you supposed to be an actor?"
The next day, Ferguson told the individual to "F-off," and made it clear to producers that she would only act in a scene with them if they turned around so she could see the back of their head.
During a recent follow-up interview, Ferguson admitted that she was “not expecting” this reaction to her comments.
“Number one, yes, I kind of enjoyed the grab,” Ferguson tells SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show. “But what I realized even at the age that I am now is it doesn’t matter. I am me. I definitely think I’m much more open. I also know where my boundaries are. But the point of the interview wasn’t about finding the person — of course, people will be interested. But I was excited about the question, which was a very good question by [Josh Smith]. Because the point was: Is there a point in your career where you were treated in a way where you changed your decision on — this is how I formulated it in myself — where you want change, or you will not accept it? And it was such a clear moment for me working with this person.”
Ferguson still hasn't named the individual she was referring to (and most likely won't), but she did receive phone calls from former co-stars who didn't seem particularly happy about suspicion falling on them!
“But I got phone calls from amazing co-stars who I’ve worked with going, ‘You understand what you’ve done, right?’” Ferguson continued. “And I was like, ‘Oh my God. No, I didn’t think.’ I mean, it’s not my responsibility, to be honest. I don’t really care. You know, ‘You’re great, but my story is my story, and if you’re a good person, then don’t worry about it.’”
Of course, this is only going to reignite speculation.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who worked with Ferguson on Hercules, quickly took himself out of the running after the interview dropped, so it'll be interesting to see if any other actors follow suit.
