EDGE OF TOMORROW 2 Script Ready; Doug Liman Hopeful To Get Started After MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 8 - EXCLUSIVE

While the demand for an Edge of Tomorrow sequel is unquestionably high, the project remains an uncertainty, especially considering the extremely busy schedules of Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt and director Doug Liman as well as the trio's propensity towards making an original sequel that's every bit as good as the first film, if not better.

So, when we got the chance to sit down with Liman earlier this month to talk about the upcoming second season of his hit YouTube series Impulse, we asked him about the status of the long-awaited Edge of Tomorrow sequel, which is tentatively titled Live, Die, Repeat and Repeat, and learned that the script is complete.

However, if they decide to move forward with it, it'll only happen after Tom Cruise completes Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 with Chris McQuarrie.

ROHAN: Is there anything you can tell me about Edge of Tomorrow 2, which I believe is titled Live, Die, Repeat and Repeat. Is that something you’re cooking up with Tom Cruise after he finishes filming the next two Mission: Impossible movies?

DOUG: I'm hoping. If we’re going to do it, that would be the time.

ROHAN: And the script is done and everything?

DOUG: Yeah, the script is ready.

Edge of Tomorrow is a fantastic movie, one of my favorites of this decade. It has infinite rewatchability factor, great performances, great action and a very neat creative concept. Can't wait for the sequel.

Wow! I thought this film was a done deal. I think the longer they wait the worse for this film. It is not like a Terminator film which has more of a presence in pop culture. This film could fall out of the collective conscience pretty quick!

@Forthas - I think it already has. Not to mention their title identity crisis

The best bet is to make it wholly original and sell it as such while connecting it to the first for fans

@ThorArms - I would not say that it is out of mind...but it is getting there!

Edge of Tomorrow is awesome, and I can't [frick]ing wait for Mi 7/8. Outside of the Mummy, Cruise has had so many great films this decade

After the next two mission impossible movies? Well that sucks. Like @TheDoctor1225 I'm not sure it needed a sequel either but if they have a good idea I'm down with it. It will be so long after the first one debuted though which puts a damper on things.

@MyCoolYoung - they had said that the idea for the sequel would change the conception of what sequels could be.

@HeavyMetal4Life - well in that case... We need a sequel. The first one was so good to me. I didn't expect to like it but I'm a fan without a doubt

@MyCoolYoung - yeah, if I remember interviews after the first movie came out, they were hesitant to make a sequel but came up with a brilliant idea for what the sequel could be. I think a lot of it time travels to take place before the first movie, during the battle of Verdun.

Loved the first one. No idea how a second one could work.
