Jurassic Park 4 in theaters June 13th, 2014. My reaction "Holy shit!! Yes!!!" As you can tell, I am a huge Jurassic Park fanatic. Hell, it's my favorite film franchise. So, how can I have thoughts on Jurassic Park 4? It's simple really. I was three or four years old when I first saw Jurassic Park (I was born 2 and a half years after it hit theaters) and I won't lie, I was a huge dinosaur kid. I saw the film and I was just in awe. You would think for as lengthy as it is and the fact it wasn't a cartoon, kids would get bored with it or just run of and play and just be kids. Not me, I would just sit there and watch and get all excited. I guess the best way to put my love for Jurassic Park is, the kind of love A LOT of people have for Star Wars is the kind of love I have for Jurassic Park. To be honest, the original is my all time favorite movie and the reason I became so in love with movies. You had the characters you could just fall in love with, the special effects were ground breaking at the time and that helped bring the dinosaurs to life. That being said, the Jurassic Park movie I saw in the theater was Jurassic Park 3, I LOVED it and I still love it to this day. I've been waiting for Jurassic Park 4 for over a decade. So, my intial reaction was all yells, and excitement. But, then I gave it more thought. Where do they go story wise? So, despite my excitement for it still, I do have some worries. I would love to see some of the original cast members back. Particularly Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum. But, as I said before. The problem is the story. I remember having a Jurassic Park marathon a little over a month ago and when I watched them back to back (which I had never done before), I saw the connections and realized that Jurasic Park 3 was a great trilogy closer. No need for a fourth. Go figure, a month later Jurassic Park 4 is announced. There, really isn't much I can say in the department of thoughts on JP4 when there really isn't much to give thoughts about. Oh, and I would rather see Steven Spielberg direct it again than someone else. But, as long as Spielberg is part of the project and has say over the script and what not, I'm confident it'll be good. That being said.
When is it that you could watch a trailer to a movie you've already seen, just the trailer alone, and just get to be all smiles? Well, despite never having read the book, that's what happens to me when I watch the trailer (2D or 3D) for Jurassic Park. I don't love Jurassic Park cause it's ground breaking. Again, it's because of the characters you could fall in love with, dinosaurs are real and alive, the exciting scenes and just the movie as a whole is, magical. The first time you see the Brontosaurus, it's just a very magical moment. It's all smiles and it lifts your heart. It's something that is just burnt into your memory. My excitement for the re-release of the original Jurassic Park was just.. wow. I couldn't believe it. I actually heard about it on this site. I reread it and I screamed like a girl would while seeing Twilight. Yea, that's a bit funny but it's true. For me, the excitement for Jurassic Park surpasses that of every Harry Potter film and every superhero film. It kinda disappoints me that these days, people will just say "yea, it was a good movie" or "it sucked, it's nothing like the book". I won't read the book. It's not cause I don't think it isn't good. It's just, why ruin the magic? Why ruin what got me into movies in the first place? Jurassic Park is everything a movie should have (minus the romance). I just think, that the re-release (even though it's in 3D) will remind people why this movie is so great in the first place. Now, I know I am guilty of saying a movie is crap compared to the book, cause The Hunger Games is just that. I'm sure, Jurassic Park is too. But, has anyone who read the Jurassic Park books tried watching them as just fun popcorn movies?
Final thoughts: Jurassic Park 3D? Yep, I'm sure it's clear my love and excitement for the film. Jurassic Park 4? I'm becoming a little worried but still confident about. Overall, while I would wish nothing but for the franchise to rest in peace. It's nice to see them try and push for Jurassic Park to live into the lives of the next generation. On a personal level, Jurassic Park is excitement and fun that you just don't get much from cinema anymore.
