GODZILLA's Classic Redesign Is Fully Unveiled In New MINUS ONE Promo Art

The recent teaser trailer for Godzilla: Minus One gave us a brief glimpse of the titular Kaiju unleashing his unmistakable roar, but only his head was visible, Now, thanks to some new artwork that was unveiled via official merchandise, we have a much better look at Toho's redesign for the mighty King of the Monsters.

As you can see, very few liberties have been taken with this latest version of the iconic atomic monster, with a look directly inspired by the character's debut in 1954's Gojira.

Though there have obviously been a few alterations (the oversized fins, for example), we can't imagine too many long-time fans having an issue with this latest take on the legendary creature.

Check out the art at the link below, along with the teaser.

This will be Toho's first Godzilla movie since 2016's Shin Godzilla. Information beyond the title is sparse, but we do know that Takashi Yamazaki - the filmmaker who worked on visual effects for Shin Godzilla - will direct the film.

Specific plot details are also still under wraps, but a (very) brief synopsis tells is that Godzilla: Minus One "sees an already devastated postwar Japan facing a new threat in the form of Godzilla."

The movie is set to debut in Japan on November 3, 2023 and in theaters in the US nationwide on December 1, 2023.

Never saw Shin Godzilla. Wonder why this isn't a sequel but rather yet another reboot.

@tylerzero - it was solid, surely showed Goji as a creepy creature. He keeps shedding his skin throughout the movie.

He starts out looking like a grotesque fish mixed with Elon Musks face, sheds his skin the more he powers up until he looks like the classic creature.

It was cool but, as always, focused too much on the human element.

Less humans, more monsters.

Just like Elon Musk in real life

@Blergh - but the movies ARE about the human element. About how they react to Godzilla happening.

@tylerzero - A sequel was never made because Shin Godzilla was so good and got so many accolades in Japan that no 1 wanted to do a follow up. Unlike America, Japan is very sensitive about the reputation and brand value of their properties. Shin Godzilla's director Anno, didn't want to write and direct a sequel and the studio couldn't find anyone else who was able to replace him without hurting its quality, so I think they just went with a full reboot. Shin Godzilla came out in 2016 so its been 8 years already....if rumors are true that Japan wants to make their own monster-verse for Japanese audiences and this may be the beginning of it.

@tylerzero - think of Godzilla look like zombie with his tail twice long as his body short stimpy arms, who fights like mecha Godzilla and trypticon shooting lasers from his fins and tail and first form have big bulbly googling eyes squirts blood out from its neck

@dragon316 - it was a very different movie but I liked the idea of showing Godzilla as a creepy and truly scary creature.
I get some don’t like it but I enjoyed it for trying something new .

That being said I’m excited for the new series as well

@tylerzero - this whole modern era of Godzilla has been defined by projects that have nothing to do with each other.

@mastakilla39 - I was thinking that too it's a mash-up of U.S Godzilla and Japan's Godzilla creating an perfect combination.

@Matador - i disagree. i think this is just a modernized/bigger/badder version of the Heisei era of Godzilla... and that is NO bad thing becuz this design is pretty damn perfect to me, imo

@MotherGooseUPus - I just considered as the look but I love the Hesei Era that had a continuation of a story a begining and an end.

@Matador - ahhh got ya.. yea, i agree and think Hesei was the best era of Godzilla so far and by a wide margin
