The Power Weapons in Power Rangers were a sure fire way for the team to dispose of the villain of the week without having to summon the Megazord. However, the recent film did not feature the team carrying their mighty weapons. Some might argue that it may not have fit within the framework of the movie, or in the world that the filmmakers were crafting - but, there is a different reason altogether.
Speaking to Comic Book, director Dean Israelite was asked if the weapons were ever in the film. "Yeah, totally. That was, we went back and forth on that a lot. And ... that again the honest answer is that I had to cut that stuff for budget," he revealed.
While it might not seem terribly hard to bring the weapons on to the big screen, Isralelite elaborated as to why it posed a challenge. "It became very hard," said the director. "Because each weapon even Jason, Jason has his weapon but is a mixture of the physical prop and the CG enhancement. And sometimes it's always fully CG. So that would have to hold true for all other unique designs. And each element you design is its own thing. So it becomes very difficult, you know multiplying the same pattern a million times is much easier than creating 5 unique different things. So we just had too many elements, we had too many assets, and I thought we could hold off for another movie."
With talk of a sequel ongoing, it would be interesting to see if Israelite could pull off the Power Weapons. Unfortunately, we may not get the opportunity to see.
