First Look At A Klingon (Sans Helmet) From STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

First Look At A Klingon (Sans Helmet) From STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

There is a distant, blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of a J.J. Abrams era Klingon in the new Uhura featurette a few articles down, and the lads at Screen Crush have zoomed in and provided a pretty clear screen grab. Trek purists may not be too happy!

I'm fine with it -- sure it's more reminiscent of the classic look, before the really exaggerated head ridges but maybe that's a good thing? Anyway, what do you guys think? Klingon or Kling-off?

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

I hope some of them have a little hair.

Other than that it's pretty much the post-Motion Picture/Search for Spock design we all know and love.

I noticed this in the featurette alright, I was hoping someone would screen grab it for a better look. I dunno, I've been a Star Trek fan since I was a kid and I'm pretty okay with this look. Just looks like a normal Klingon but bald really. I know they looked more human like in The Original Series but that was explained in Enterprise. I would prefer if they had hair though. That being said, just because this dude's bald doesn't mean they all are I guess. Plus, General Chang was bald in Star Trek 6.

it looks like a cross between the Suliban and Klingons from the 90's. More genetic augmenting?

He actually doesn't really look that much different, the major change is the demonic looking eyes. Old school Klingons just had normal peepers.

It is either the new Klingons or this is a Klingon that is inbetween the old ones without forehead ridges and the current.

Or this guy is simply a bald Klingon with those type of ridges.

I don't know if it's just me, but the ridges seem reminiscent of the same type of ridges that General Chang had in ST VI. I know they've established that not all Klingons have the same type of ridges, usually the ridges are the same with each member of a certain "house", but change with different houses on Q'nos. So I'm wonder if the picture of the Klingon we see IS General Chang or maybe a member of the Chang house on Q'nos?

The only difference I see is that in ST VI's version of General Chang, the ridges, don't extend past where the hairline is, whereas this version extends all the way to the nose. Other than that, the shape(not length) of the ridges look very similar to General Chang.

apparently baldness is a villainy must in JarJar's trek universe

When its only one Klingon, its hard to pass judgement. There have been a LOT of variations on the ridges... Work, Gowron, Chang, Kor (both TOS and DS9), Klingon Ambassador, Kruge, Gorkon, Lursa, B'Etor.

If they ALL look like the screencap, I'll be a little disappointed. Its going to be an epic movie no matter what.

So, basically JJ Abrams doesn't like it when Star Trek aliens have hair?

@ Intruder - 5/1/2013

ummmm... I don't know.

_________________________________________________

Intruder, that was my first impression, exactly! Enemy Mine. Kind of lizard-like, especially with those eyes.

I don't mind a change. But, after I saw those old pics from 2009 with the helmets, I always imagined them more ape-like under the helmets. Kind of like these..

Like these, except with the traditional "Worf" forehead ridges. The same as Worf, just more "animal-looking" and beastly.

But, that's only one pic, and one Klingon. I need to see them in context and in motion before judging too much.

doesn't even look an alien, just looks like someone who's suffering from a bad mutatuon, this is my main problem with star trek, aliens just dont look like aliens, they look more like humans with defects and mutations, too humanoid for my liking, need to take notes from the mass effect series. This however wont stop me from watching or enjoying the movie

lol...so this poses many questions on art direction....

Ships, costumes, phasers and personalities can be different due to the new timeline....but not whole races of creatures. I think this could piss off whatever old-school fans were still on board with this crap.
