J.J. Abrams On The Role Of The Klingons In STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

Director J.J. Abrams discusses Klingons and the significance of Alice Eve's Carol Marcus in Star Trek Into Darkness with MTV. The director says you won't need to be familiar with the back story of the Klingons to understand their role in the film.

Chatting with MTV, director J.J. Abrams discussed the inclusion of Klingons and a possible love interest for James T. Kirk in his second Star Trek outing.

On the Klingons.
"We shot some stuff that had klingons in it and then we ended up cutting the scene so it's a deleted scene on the dvd but they are back in this one. Their role in this is definitely adversarial and you'll see how that plays out. But you don't have to know about any preexisting stories to watch this film. "

On Carol Marcus played by Alice Eve.
"Wouldn't [Chris Pine] like that [having Alice Eve as a love interest]. [Kirk] meets [Carol] fairly early on and again- she plays a science officer, she's someone who is part of the adventure and it's an action-adventure movie so once that gets going it's a difficult thing to park the story and say 'lets do a romantic interlude.' But her role is important, she wouldn't be in the movie otherwise."

I am looking forward to this. I loved the original Klingons, and loved the Next Generation Klingons even more. Now I am excited to see what JJ Abrams bring to them considering for amazing his first Star Trek film was.

So WTF does this mean??

So are they in it or not? If it's a deleted scene that would mean they are NOT in it.

Think that's the Botany Bay being discovered at 0:56 in the trailer. Would be pretty cool.

If BC is Kahn, I'm okay with that (except for him not looking anything like a Kahn Noonian Singh). I understand that the studio needs to make money and the best way to make a lot of it is to have recognizable characters. I figure the more they make, the more *quality* sequels we'll get.

Just put in a badass Andorian character somewhere.

Awesome! I loved what he did with Romulans in the first one so I can't wait to see what's going on with the Klignons.

Also I have to agree with Tainted, Dracula. Ferengis? What are they going to do try to buy the federation? Why not have the Dominion?

Abrams' klingons? Not klingons but CLOWNS...

Ludicrous and pathetic design.

Mask are for cowards, not for warriors.

I tend to agree that masks are for cowards, not Klingon warriors.

These Klingon guys might just end up in the next Star Wars movie. Who knows.

DS9 had a lot of great stories about Ferengis, like in the episode 'The Magnificent Ferengi'. Some very interesting characters.

Of course they are interesting, but they are NOT an adversarial race that poses any kind of galactic threat to the Federation.

Masks? I see helmets. But they cover their faces, gotcha. Hmm, let's see....

And just because...

Cool. Glad that's settled. Moving on.....

I could see Klingons wearing a burial mask. That's about it though.

But I guess Klingons did fight the treacherous, masked Breen, and there is "no greater honor than victory".
