Celebrate The Release Of STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI With STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II Season 1 DLC

While EA and Dice found themselves in hot water recently with Star Wars Battlefront II's botched loot crate system, the latest DLC package for The Last Jedi may win them some favour...

EA Games and Dice have been desperate for some good press regarding their latest game, Star Wars Battlefront II. The game recently came under heavy fire for its microtransaction and progression systems, which locked playabale characters behind paywalls (or 60 hour unlock times) and a loot crate system that was effectively pay-to-win.

While the launch of the game saw the removal of loot crates entirely, the team does plan to put them back into the game in an altered form. In the meantime, EA has debuted their first look at the DLC tie-in material for The Last Jedi, which will feature Captain Phasma and Finn as playable heroes, along with the planet Crait as a featured map. The DLC also promises to continue the cliffhanger ending of the game's story.

I want to see what they do with loot boxes before I buy this game.

@iMVuze - They've already released the first round of changes, better performing players will earn more credits.

iMVuze - 12/7/2017, 9:11 AM
@MattBellissimo - Yes but they have yet to make any official announcement on what they plan on doing with micro-transactions. Earning more credits after the game is a good step, but if they go back to how it was before I won't buy the game.

@Kryptonmatters - Yes I read the article about this. However having Blake Jorgensen say "maybe we won't bring back micro-transactions we'll let you know at some point" is nothing close to official, or let's me know as a consumer what they plan on doing. All it tells me is maybe they will maybe they wont, either way they'll say it in the future.

@iMVuze - Oh I'm not saying that it is official, but I had shown you that before I even watched the launch trailer. Aftere finding out that they are doing the very thing I knew they would do with the single player campaign, I say [frick] EA.

@iMVuze - that arsehole Jorgensen said in a board meeting that they have the net code written to switch iver to cosmetic loot crated when the hammer cones down on pay to win.

@sKeemAn - Same stance I'm taking with them, which is a shame.

I enjoyed their Sims franchise, particularly because of the nostalgia, but because I realized that it is a good house/building planning/builder simulator. A cheap program from wannabe designers like me who want to plan their dream house (while also messing around with other things).

Hopefully someone buys it from them, or we get another similar game/franchise to the Sims because it will be a shame to not get anymore because they are own by one of the companies that is ruining the gaming industry...

Although, to be fair, EA probably would sue the shit out of any competitor that dares to make a game similar to the Sims. I mean, this is the same company that weaseled their way into getting exclusive rights to many IPs.

Already decided to pass on this game. Removing the loot crates won't sway me, even if it's a permanent change. Basically came out with a AAA mobile game trying to cheat the fans. An awful progression system doesn't help either. It's a real shame too, because between this and the first one, there's a great game hidden under some terrible decisions.

It took me six hours at least to unlock Luke. It's being so blown out of proportion. And all DLC will be free. I'm not even that good at this game and I still unlocked the most expensive stuff within days. It is impossible to please everyone.
iMVuze
iMVuze - 12/7/2017, 11:16 PM
@WYLEEJAY - It's not being blown out of proportion. Judging from your comment it sounds like you don't understand the topic. You know what's a faster way to unlock Luke? By buying loot boxes. What's your 6 hours compared to my 6 seconds? By buying the loot boxes I would have a direct advantage over you, even if that advantage is time. So now after spending money to get heroes, I can now save all credits and put them towards cards and leveling those cards up.
WYLEEJAY
WYLEEJAY - 12/7/2017, 11:29 PM
@iMVuze - Do you understand how loot boxes work? I don't think you do. Do you have any clue how much money you would have to sink into it to get what you want? Shit you want to blow that much go ahead. I got him from playing a few hours.

Secondly, having actually played the game, and loot box purchasing has never been on, I still come across players with high tier cards. Because they played the game. There's always going to be someone out there that's either better, has better stuff, or both. The games a blast. For me. That's what matters to me. But I see so much misinformation out there, like the amount of hours needed right here in this very article, I don't think there's anything wrong with me sharing correct info. You don't like, sorry.

YouDontKnowMe - 12/8/2017, 2:51 PM
@WYLEEJAY - Bro I'm with you, I NEVER pay for in game content. Would rather play my way to unlocking them, it's far more rewarding than throwing money away. But hey what can we do, this is the age of I want it all right now!! People are too impatient, they have to have all the best gear etc right out the gate rather than build their skills and collection. iMVuze is a perfect example of this new mindset.
iMVuze
iMVuze - 12/10/2017, 1:42 AM
@WYLEEJAY - I do know how loot boxes work and not a single thing I said shows otherwise. There shouldn't be an option to dump X amount of money to get X amount of material so I can get X card I want. You got one character with 6 hours of work. There is 14 in total. Did you save up exclusively to buy the character? What cards did you buy? How much were they? Also micro transactions weren't turned off before launch, they were turned off after so people. Of course you come across people with higher tier cards, but you have no idea if they saved up all their materials just for those cards etc. You shouldn't have to pay to keep up with people who want to dump $200 into the game to get whatever they want. No one is arguing about the enjoyment you get and no I am not bothered by you "sharing correct info" I am bothered by you saying people's complaints with the game are blown out of proportion. That's where the misunderstanding is. People don't like the fact that you can pay money to skip the time dump. By skipping that 6 hour grind the player who spent money has a direct advantage over you.
iMVuze
iMVuze - 12/10/2017, 1:49 AM
@YouDontKnowMe - I'm not the perfect example of that "I want it right now give it to me" mindset. That's not even my argument dude or anything close to it. My argument is that it is not fair that someone can skip the grind by paying money. The funny thing is people who spend money are guilty of what you're accusing me of lol. Anyway, next time you want to open your mouth and shit on someone atleast know what you're talking about.
WYLEEJAY
WYLEEJAY - 12/10/2017, 9:33 AM
@iMVuze - You HAVE to play the game, and level up your class in order to USE and or even upgrade the lower tier cards. I wish I could post a screenshot from my phone. Best example. My assault class is a 6. I have a 1 tier card. I can't upgrade the card until that class is a higher level. If I receive that higher level card in a loot box, I still can't use it until I get to that higher level. Where other games you automatically get the unlocks as you level up. This game actually makes it more challenging to get them. If you want to blow a hundred dollars on loot boxes, you are not guaranteed good cards. You will still have to play the game a lot even if you get a great card.

And I'm an active gamer, playing multiple games, so I don't really have the time to just focus on this game. So I've probably played it five times in the past two weeks, for maybe around 10 hours, and already purchased the two most expensive unlocks, and already have almost enough for the next character. So yeas the 40 to 60 hour grind is not true. And this is without being able to purchase loot boxes with my own money. And yes I did use my in game credits I earned on a few things other than just these two characters. So I could have gotten them faster.

Now loot boxes themselves I think are bullshit. People are right when they say you shouldn't be able to get powerful buffs with real money, but they turned it off, nobody I'm playing against bought theirs, and I still get my ass kicked once in a while. It's gaming.

Now I do believe when they reintroduce the crates for purchase they going to introduce the class customization that a dataminer discovered in the game. So hopefully credits, spare parts, emotes, poses, and cosmetics will be the only things in those crates then.
WYLEEJAY
WYLEEJAY - 12/10/2017, 9:34 AM
@iMVuze - You simply CAN NOT skip the grind. That's my point.
iMVuze
iMVuze - 12/10/2017, 10:37 AM
@WYLEEJAY - Yes I am aware there is a level req. and even with that req. my point still stands. Someone who spends money still comes out on the other side better than someone who doesn't.

The bullshit loot boxes are bullshit I agree and that's the crux of the issue lol. Yes I agree with you completely, and I understand and am aware that the game doesn't have them right now. However EA has said that they plan on bringing them back in some form and it's how they bring it back that is important.

You're right it should be cosmetic only. My only worry is when the CFO said "no one wants a pink Vader" meaning they are intentionally trying to misunderstand what the consumer wants just to try to force the old way of doing things back.
WYLEEJAY
WYLEEJAY - 12/10/2017, 11:40 AM
@iMVuze - Yeah I read that too. I don't think that particular guy had a clue what they were being asked. It will be alternate armor and body pieces. Clothes too. When he said Pink Vader would ruin continuity I planned on ignoring anything else he ever has to say. He must have watched a fan film that had Rey and Maul fighting, because I don't remember watching that in any of the movies.
