Possible New STAR WARS EPISODE VIII Character Details Revealed Along With Intriguing Set Photo

Some very interesting new details have been revealed about the characters who will be played by Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran in Rian Johnson's Star Wars Episode VIII next year.

Making Star Wars has been very reliable for news on the Star Wars franchise since Disney resurrected the property, and they today have some very intriguing details on some key characters in Episode VIII. Those are the ones being played by Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran, and interestingly, it sounds like the former isn't going to be making his presence felt as a new big bad here.
  • Benecio del Toro - described by the site as a classic "man in black," he's said to be dangerous and possibly connected to the casino set which was talked about online some time ago. Clad entirely in black (hence the moniker above), he's clean shaven with hair not all that different to Poe Dameron, and while it's been said that he's playing a villain, the heroes apparently don't see him as a bad guy...at least not at first!
  • Laura Dern - called a "bombastic" character by the site, she's aristocratic and fancy in a way which the Star Wars franchise has never seen. However, based on the set photo below, she won't be the only one who looks like an extra from The Hunger Games!
  • Kelly Marie Tran - the site promises more details to come about the relatively unknown actress's role in the near future, but it sounds like she'll end up playing a part in whatever Finn's story is in Episode VIII. Could she be a love interest for the hero? It sounds like we'll have to wait and see for the time being.
What do you think about these new Star Wars Episode VIII details? While some have speculated that a first teaser for the movie might be attached to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it's still too soon to say for sure, and chances are it could be a while before we hear anything concrete about what's to come in the Rian Johnson helmed release. Regardless, be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

Huh. Interesting. Rian Johnson is a really capable director, so I think this could be great. Hopefully they don't play on nostalgia as much as The Force Awakens. That movie could have been so much better.

Sounds like Del Toro is some sort of mob boss.

@Darkknight2149 - I hope you're right man. While I like the idea of him being a sith lord. He fits the mob boss role so much better. A human Jaba the Hutt would be great for him.

Benecio del Toro should be nothing other than a sith lord. It would just be perfect, especially after his character in Sicario.....pleeeease Disney, think of the children.

Hopefully we get a teaser soon. I believe that SW:TFA's first teaser was released around the end of November. If not, they'd be silly not to attach it to Rogue One.

@Dotanuki - I'd put my money on the likelihood we won't see a true trailer until Superbowl.

@newmutantsRETURNS - he is too old for that,
Ezra is 15/16 when a new hope begins.
he should be 35-40 in the new timeline.
Benicio is what? 50-60 y/o.
