Rian Johnson On The Possibility Of Directing STAR WARS EPISODE VII

The Looper director was never rumored to be in the running to helm the new Star Wars flick, but his name pops up frequently on fan's and critic's wishlists. Well, turns out he would be interested, but doesn't think he's on anyone's radar for the job..

Since Looper, Rian Johnson's name is never very far away from a list of desired directors for Star Wars Episode VII, with many fans hoping his would be one of the names on the eventual shortlist. Unfortunately that doesn't seem likely, although he would be up for it if asked. "I don't think I'm on those sorts of lists," said Johnson. "On the one hand, it's Star Wars, it would be very hard to say no to." Johnson goes on to explain that he's busy working on another original screenplay, and that is will indeed be another sci-fi story.

"On the other hand, for me, I'm really enjoying just writing my own stuff, and right now that's what I'm doing, I'm writing another original screenplay now, and we'll figure out how to get it made. That's sort of what I'm in it for, is telling my own stories, and seeing if we can strike out on some new ground. So, luckily I don't think it's a problem that I'll have to deal with! It is sci-fi, but it's very different than Looper."

God no. His style has potential but faaaar from ready to do something like Star Wars. There were too many awkward moments in Looper that would kill Star Wars.

It's Star WARS, Ror. lol

Honestly, I don't care who they get to direct the new series, as long as they don't ass-rape it like Lucas tried so hard to do.

He may not be on anyones list now, but the way people are passing on this, he might be soon...if SW fans would stop being so brutal on these movies, the prequels and Lucas perhaps we could get a really good director for the sequals...people look back at the originals with rose colored glasses...

Good. I love the guy, but I just don't see him fitting in the Star Wars universe in any way - much like how I feel about Joss Whedon - and I'd rather see him creating more and more movies of his own. Another original sci-fi outing from Rian Johnson? Yes, please.

And as for Star Wars: Episode VII, I'm still rooting for Duncan Jones, Joe Johnston, and George Nolfi. Has any of those names been counted out?

I don't think I've seen so many possible directors for one movie!

Pretty much all the directors I wanted for Episode 7 turned down the gig.

I hope Disney could find a great director soon.

They probably won't announce a director until close to comic con. Crappy but they are getting a lot of hype and it will be a great time for the scale of the announcement
