Daisy Ridley was a relative unknown when she was cast as the female lead of Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy, but the actress quickly became a household name.
While some of the creative decisions made with Rey were undeniably questionable (such as the Jedi declaring herself a Skywalker), Ridley did a great job and delivered a fantastic performance across all three movies. However, like a lot of her co-stars, the British actress has to deal with a lot of online trolls and toxicity.
During a recent interview with Variety (via SFFGazette.com), Ridley was asked if she has any advice to share with her fellow female actors now joining the Star Wars Universe. Remember, Obi-Wan Kenobi star Moses Ingram dealt with unwarranted online hate and racism as recently as last year when she played Reva in the series.
"The world is a crazy place," Ridley told the trade. "It’s important to tune out the stuff."
We'd say that's good advice, and she would go on to comment on some of the female-led projects on the way, sharing high praise for Disney+'s The Acolyte.
"Not just with ‘Star Wars,’ but with everything, you try and be in the moment and enjoy what it is because life moves quickly," Ridley continued. "Amandla Stenberg can handle herself. She’s been working for a long time. I sat next to someone at the ‘Wakanda Forever’ premiere, an executive, and they said [‘The Acolyte’] is amazing."
"Everyone knows how things are and how they can be," she added. "We’re all living in that, with people saying more than they need to and commenting more than they need to. It’s so individual. Find the good in it all and enjoy it."
We're sure there will be those who take issue with Ridley's comments about Star Wars fans, but like most massive fanbases, there is a significant toxic element to that which continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons. Whether that will change with the next era of movies remains to be seen.
