Star Wars: Forces of Destiny explores a variety of different stories from all across the saga's timeline. A brand new short, entitled "Bounty Hunted", reveals that Maz Kanata (who debuted in The Force Awakens) played a key part in Return of the Jedi's plan to rescue a frozen Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt.

The short depicts Boushh interrupting Maz and Leia's meeting. After Leia and Chewie make quick work of the bounty hunter, Maz has the idea that Leia could make good use of Boushh's armor. This armour would eventually help her gain access to Jabba's palace, as seen early on in Return of the Jedi.

While the short might not bring with it any saga-changing revelations, it helped shed light on Leia's backstory in addition to cementing Maz's role in the overall galaxy.

What do you think about Maz being further established within Disney's reboot of Star Wars' lore?

It was only a matter of time before the new stuff would get mixed in with the holy trinity... Oh well it was fun while it lasted

I'm not surprised they finally started retconning stuff by adding forgettable characters of the new movies into the stories that everyone loves and trying to make them feel more important that way.

Thats stupid. Too bad she did absolutely nothing to help out in ep 8. She could have saved that entire casino plot from ever happening and actually contribute positively from an entertainment standpoint.

Force Awakens didn't seem to imply that she was some close friend of Han's. This feels pretty contrived.

Look, this show isn't made for me. It's made for young girls. And to pretend that Star Wars was never about selling toys would be a lie. This is one of those shows where, you do question "Why?" Based on the first 8 shorts that I watched, all I could think about was if I had a daughter, I would show her better things. Hell if she wanted to watch women in Star Wars, I own 7 movies, a holiday special, and all six seasons of Clone Wars on Nexflix. I'll even buy all four seasons of Rebels. These shorts don't add anything to the characters. All I see are scenes that were deleted for a reason. And they really don't even teach any morals, which I feel like this show is trying (and failing) to do. But like I said, I haven't watched anything beyond the first 8 shorts they aired last year. And I don't think I'm going to go back to it.

So I guess she'll just be shoe-horned into everything now? You can't make me love the character, she's not that interesting.
