STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Concept Art Puts "Dark Rey" Beneath Kylo Ren's Helmet

"Dark Rey" only had a few minutes of screentime in The Rise of Skywalker, but this new concept art reveals a fun throwback to The Empire Strikes Back as she's revealed to be beneath a familiar helmet...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker took Daisy Ridley's Rey to some interesting places, though her temptation to turn to the Dark Side was only given a fleeting glance in terms of screentime. When she retrieved Emperor Palpatine's Wayfinder, she briefly saw a "Dark" version of herself.

It was never entirely clear whether that was supposed to be a glimpse at what would happen if the Emperor took her body for himself or a sneak peek at her evil side, but this newly revealed piece of concept art puts a fun spin on that by revealing a vision of Rey being beneath Kylo Ren's helmet.

It's a cool piece of imagery and a fun throwback to The Empire Strikes Back when Luke Skywalker cut down Darth Vader only to discover that he was the one wearing the Sith Lord's mask.

Unfortunately, nothing quite as inventive as this ended up in The Rise of Skywalker, and with no indication that Rey planned to build a double-sided lightsaber (she did in Colin Trevorrow's Duel of the Fates), it was hard to escape the feeling that "Dark Rey" was only there because she'd make a cool toy.

Check out this newly revealed concept art below:

@Kucakingkai1991 - Not sure why you sent that to me, but okay. Got to say agree with the women. Like seriously just knowing its female led isnt going to cause excitement, plus just saying that kind of sends the message that thats all they care about, which leads to the whole agenda debate

After this trilogy, got to say I think im more of a Trek guy now (although even that franchise has gone to shit) Already saw TOS and those movies.
Just finished watching Next Generation and Deep Space 9, will soon watch Voyager. Got to say Deep Space 9 is probably the best series

She should’ve went to the dark side

@WruceBayne - should have just let Kylo be a villain instead of pandering to reylo shippers

@dracula - yeah that definitely would’ve worked too.

@WruceBayne - Could have given him something that make him memorable outside of being Han's son. Like if they want to keep the plot they have, fine it would still be crap, but it would be slightly less crappy.Could have had Kylo strike down Palpatine and instead of being taken over, he could have been in control.

Gilroy supposedly saved Rogue One

@BlackBeltJones - idk. It's just weird that every Star Wars project outside of Mando and Episode 8 goes through so much production turmoil. Obi Wan scrapped a writer and this show just swapped show-runners.

They should have turned Rey full darkside in The Last Jedi and had her go on a path of destruction with Kylo Ren.

But Disney wanted another Princess to their collection.

@marvel72 - Why? that removes the whole conflict from the series, and makes all of the movies pointless.

@marvel72 - Rey go full farkside in TLJ. While Kylo turns "good" by the end after being pursuaded by Luke's "projection"? so basically at the end we leave off with evil Rey and Luke,Ben,Finn and Po teaming up to save her from herself in the third one. imagine the banter between this group? wouldve been gold.

So we have a redemption for Ben and Luke in the third movie.

@marvel72 - They are an odd group
ship their "strong" female lead with a guy who has mostly tried to kill her.
Cheered over a small kiss saying "WE WON".
Seconds later yell "I [frick]ING HATE STAR WARS" because he died
