STAR WARS VII Headed Back To Tatooine?

According to a source for Badass Digest, J.J. Abrams Star Wars: Episode VII headed to Morocco, and will start filming there May 14th. Could they be headed there to take advantage of the old abandoned sets of Luke Skywalker's home planet, Tatooine?

A week ago, the Icelandic website visir.is (via Metro News), reported, Star Wars VII will film landscape shots sometime in the Spring, which led many sites to speculate that JJ was gonna reintroduce the ice planet Hoth, last seen in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Now, it seems as though JJ is planning some more fan service with a return to Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker's home world of Tatooine. Keep in mind, that's just speculation, but it makes sense. It's based on this recent report from Badass Digest: "Sources tell me that Star Wars Episode VII will begin shooting almost exactly six weeks from today, on May 14th. The first two weeks will be on location in Morocco." From there, they speculate that sets in Morocco, used for Tatooine in the original Star Wars trilogy, would be put to use again. Currently, the structures are in fairly rough shape, but that's to be expected based on age and neglect. And further speculation suggests that the sets dilapidated appearance could actual be beneficial to JJ's vision. Not much info, but then again we don't know too much about this project at the moment. As it stands, Adam Driver is most likely the main baddie, the cast will be made up of familiar faces and a trio of young leads, and that the film will take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi. Oh, and the film will be released December 18, 2015.

I think we all want to see brand new planets. But personally I don't mind going back to a few old places.

@TheAbaryMan369 After seeing what happened to Jabba in Episode 6...I doubt the place is occupied.

But of course they'll either have to resurrect Jabba or use his son or relative or something

For a boring dustbowl of a planet, it sure has had a lot of screentime in STAR WARS, appearing in 5 of the 6 movies released so far.

@NoAssemblyReqd Seeing how two of the most powerful force users were raised on that planet, it kind of makes sense.

Hopefully rumors like this aren't true. I mean, I like everyone else wants this to be more like the originals and the prequels, but that doesn't mean they should just re-tread old territory. Between this and the rumor about Hoth being another setting, I'm a bit worried.

Star-Wars wouldn't be Star-Wars without Tatooine. The big question is going to be how weak is the Empire during Episode 7? Are they still on the run since I'm sure there's multiple bounties out on them, or has the rebellion swelled their ranks to be a formidable challenge against what's left of the Empire. Once we know that It's going to give us a much better idea as to how this episode will play out.

@ bullitnut-- You are absolutely correct, sir. From what I can see/remember from the days when I obsessed over this kind of info, no shooting took place in Morocco for any Star Wars film.

Every Star Wars film with the exception of The Empire Strikes Back has had some scene set on Tattooine. This is yet another reason why TESB is so good, it had no need to make the galaxy seem even smaller than Lucas was trying to make it.
