It's a little odd to be talking about the second season of
The Mandalorian when the first has yet to even premiere on Disney+, but during a recent preview event for the highly anticipated live-action
Star Wars series, it was revealed that Carl Weathers will be directing episodes in the future.
Fprmer EW
writer Anthony Breznican, who attended the event, confirmed that Carl Weathers will be one of the directors for
The Mandalorian Season 2. In the series, Weathers plays Grief Carga, the head of a guild of bounty hunters. With so much of the series cloaked in secrecy, it's unclear how large of a role Weathers has, but it does seem that Carga could serve as the catalyst for at least one of the Mandalorian's missions.
"He's the head of this guild of bounty hunters," Weathers revealed back in April.
"He's looking for someone to bring a product to a client. It's worth a lot, very valuable. Guess who he finds? He finds a bounty hunter named Mandalorian … he hires this guy, sends him out there, and Mando does what needs to be done."
While most will know
Rocky and
Predator star Weathers for his acting, he does have some directing credits on his resume, including an episode in the television series
Hawaii Five-0.
It was revealed months ago that Jon Favreau will also be directing an episode for Season 2.
“We’re working on Season Two, writing, prepping with the directors, and getting ready to direct myself, actually,” Favreau
told Entertainment Weekly in September.
“I didn’t get a chance the last time around because I was doing Lion King. So I’ll step in for one of them.”
The first season of
The Mandalorian features a number of high-profile names as directors, including Rick Famuyiwa, Deborah Chow, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Taika Waititi.
The Mandalorian will premiere on Disney+ when the streaming service launches on November 12. Early reactions from the press junket
have been very positive.
