SHANG-CHI Star Florian Munteanu Reveals Why Shooting That Bus Fight Scene Was So Challenging (Exclusive)

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings featured some of the MCU's greatest action scenes to date, and Razor Fist himself, Florian Munteanu, has now broken down that incredible battle on the bus...

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was definitely a game-changer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly when it came to its incredible action. The movie wasted no time in establishing the fact that these fight scenes were unlike anything else we'd seen from Marvel Studios before, as evidenced by the battle between Shang-Chi and Razor Fist on the bus.

In a matter of moments, Shaun became Shang-Chi and was pushed to the limits by his father's villainous henchman in one of the movie's most intense, craziest sequences.

When we caught up with actor Florian Munteanu recently, he shared some insight into the challenges that came with shooting the scene. "Stepping into the bus, we rehearsed, I think, for four weeks with choreography. It was tough because a bus is generally very tight and very small," he explained. "You don’t have a lot of space to move in and, especially for a guy like me who is big and tall, I need my space and I need room to actually deliver those big haymakers."

"I was basically touching the roof with my head; poles were everywhere. From the first day, I remember this exactly, I told Simu, ‘Bro, we’re going to get injured so many times in this bus!’ [Laughs] He was like, ‘Do you really think that?’ I said, ‘Trust me on that.’ I already knew from when I saw the inside of the bus," he continued. "You know, when you get into character, you don’t think about holding back because you want to be authentic and real, so it was inevitable that we were hitting stools, and cameras, and poles, and everything in there."

"It was the sacrifice we had to make, and that we had to deliver, and I think in the end it was worth it. I’m very happy with the bus scene and how it turned out and I think we put our mark with that scene on the Marvel Universe, especially when it comes to fighting in Marvel."

There's no arguing with that point, and while the fight on the scaffolding made a similar impact, this encounter on the bus was one that made it impossible to blink for fear of missing the action.

Ultimately, Shang-Chi and Katy manage to overcome Razor Fist, but it feels like a rematch could be brewing for somewhere down the line. The villain has now aligned himself with Xialing as part of the new Ten Rings, so they're bound to cross paths again before too long, though Florian has made it clear that he has a few other opponents he'd be interested in squaring off with in the MCU.

Which of Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings' fight scenes was your favourite?

Bus scene is arguably the best action sequence from the MCU. Like it's that good. I need this movie to come on Disney+, so I can just watch it in HD over and over again.

If I were in a movie fight scene and I knew my hand was going to be digitally removed I'd constantly make lewd gestures or to grope some peck and generally try to get the person opposite me to laugh.

Hooo boy. You guys see this trainwreck yet?

You'd think after the James Gunn debacle, Marvel would be digging through their employees past social media post a little more to screen ahead. Nope. Sheesh.

@Feralwookiee - meh, seems like a non story brought up by someone wanting to start some sh*t. I mean, who searches Reddit for this stuff?

@Feralwookiee - wow. That first tweet I was like "ok, I get why people are mad, but I don't necessarily see that as really bad,"

Then that second tweet...oh boy.

@Waddles - but he said being a pedophile was no different than being gay.

@Origame - Yeah. I think I get where he's coming from or at least attempting to, but I wouldn't have even touched that subject. It's just a can of worms.

As I've stated to many of my younger friends, regardless of your intentions, either stay off of "social media" or be EXTREMELY careful what you write. It WILL come back to bite you.

The narcissistic/sycophantic nature of "social media" is unhealthy to begin with imo, and the fact that it can be used as a device to destroy careers etc based on someone's/anyone's interpretation of what is "offensive" is very dangerous. As a out of touch generation x old fart, I'd say avoid it at all costs.

@Spidey91 - Idk. I think I get what he was TRYING to say, but it's not expressed well, and I think it's a dynamite topic that's too risky to touch. I would not have clicked "send" on that one!

@Feralwookiee - exactly. And in this position where you're being viewed by millions of people around the world, you're basically ruining your life if you aren't careful.

Personally, if I were a major actor in Hollywood, my social media would end up being exclusively film promotion and saying hi to fans.

@Origame - Yeah. I've gotta agree with that. Nowadays, just keep it easy and breezy. Don't try to be "deep" because you're not gonna convert anyone to your way of thinking and/or you're just preaching to an already indoctrinated choir.

If you're some nobody without nothing to really lose, maybe go on some edgy rants, but if you have MONEY or status, why ever even bother risking that for a little attention?

@Waddles - ok so I looked at the full quote. And while I think it's a bit better, it's not so much.

The issue with conversion therapy with gay people isn't just that it's ineffective but also that there's nothing wrong with liking people of the same sex and being attracted to them. But pedophilia is. So the way I see this in terms of the wording he's going for, either he's suggesting there's nothing we can do preventatively and/or gay people are on a similar level of immorality.

Again, much of this is just from very poor wording. But then again anyone with half a brain should realize that making a claim that, if anything, is in favor of pedophilia (he is ultimately sympathetic to them here) then you should be ridiculously careful with what you say.

@KWilly - well I mean he was cast in the mcu in 2018. And he had a major role in a pretty popular TV series before that.

@Waddles - he didn’t need to condemn it. He equated it to pedophilia.
