Producer Peter Safran is playing a key role in the new DC Extended Universe and his name has popped up a lot in regards to both
Aquaman and
Shazam!. Now, he's been talking about the latter and made it clear that he doesn't have an issue with James Gunn taking the helm of both
The Suicide Squad and
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
"I love that he's doing Guardians 3," he revealed during a recent interview. "Just as a fan, I love the Guardians movies so much. I cannot wait to see what he does with Guardians 3."
Wait a second, that doesn't really make sense, does it? After all, surely Warner Bros. can't be happy that Gunn will be working on movies set in both the Marvel and DC Universes! Well, Safran went on to explain why the Marvel/DC rivalry simply doesn't exist for them and added that he wishes fans could move past it as there's really no need for it to exist at this stage.
"I've always believed that which unites comic book fans is much greater than that which divides us," Safran added. "And so, the whole Marvel/DC rivalry thing is kind of bullshit. Because really, we're all fans of the same thing. I love the fact that [James Gunn has] directed a movie for Marvel and directed a movie for DC. And the Earth is not spinning off its axis. It's okay."
Shazam! has found itself embroiled in this rivalry due to the fact the hero used to be known as "Captain Marvel," a title which has since been adopted by Carol Danvers in the comic books and Marvel Cinematic Universe.
