SHAZAM! - FURY OF THE GODS Star Adam Brody Teases More Shazam Family Action In The Sequel

The Shazam Family wasn't exactly an afterthought in 2019's Shazam!, but they didn't get a lot to do either! In a recent interview, Kid Detective's Adam Brody teases more action for the magical heroes!

It would be harsh to say the Shazam Family was little more than an afterthought in Shazam!, but they were introduced at the last-minute and didn't get the screentime many fans hoped for. That's likely to change in the sequel  - not to mention when they finally cross paths with Black Adam - and actor Adam Brody has now promised more action for the heroes.

In an interview with Screen Rant to promote his new film Kid Detective, the adult Freddie Freeman was asked what fans can expect, confirming his scenes include stunts and wirework.

Noting that the entire Shazam Family will get far more action scenes in Shazam! - Fury of the Gods, Brody explained that, for him, the most exciting part of the entire process is getting to play a young kid who finds himself in the body of an adult with some incredible magical superpowers.

"I'm sure there'll be moments of real peril that you take seriously as well," he teased, "but leaning into the comedy and leaning into the goofiness and the wish fulfillment of it all is a pretty natural and joyful experience."

By the time the Shazam! sequel is released, the kids will be quite a bit older, and that could lessen the impact of their transformation into adults, particularly with Mary. For example, it will now make much more sense for Grace Fulton to play that hero in place of Michelle Borth.

Grace Fulton was already in her 20’s with the first Shazam... there was no reason to cast Michelle Borth as Mary Marvel then. Now that she’s a few years further into her 20’s it doesn’t really change things.

100% DISAGREE with "It would be harsh to say the Shazam Family was little more than an afterthought in Shazam!, but they were introduced at the last-minute and didn't get the screentime many fans hoped for."

If you introduce them too early it would have taken away from Shazam himself. Adding them when they did was the perfect introduction. They had some solid screen time and were a surprise to everyone in the audience. Also, we had way more time getting to know Levi's character without the distraction.

I was at the films premiere screening in NYC a month before its release with the full cast and direction in attendance. The audience lost it when they came in.

Looking forward to their presence in the sequel, but thought the family was handled perfectly in the first solo outing.

@CaptainDC - yeah. If anything they shouldn't have gotten powers in this movie, as it kinda takes away from shazam himself. We don't need this to start off as a crossover event.

@Origame - while I enjoyed it, I was thinking the same thing about it taking away from Captain Marvel himself. I'd rather have seen him come into his own first.

Such an underrated CBM. It didn’t make the money it should have, the release date was suspect.

Can’t wait for Shazam! to face off with Black Adam.

Only thing i really know him from is his part in the Mr & Mrs Smith film. It still cracks me up when he asks not to get hit in the face during his interrogation. SO if its more comedy, i'm with it.

Hope they don’t overdo it with the cast and take away from the lead.

@lawndart - I hope the exact opposite.
The Shazam family is what makes Shazam different. I want to see alot more from Asian and the black kid, as they were the best in the film.

@aresww3 - I never said to not show more, just to avoid taking away from the lead. It can be done, but it is a balancing act. Captain America civil war an Avengers film, but was emotionally very much still a Captain America story.

Yeah they better stick to the core of the Shazam family, it's a good ensemble at this point.

I thought it was funny this movie had the Flash and Superman from JL: Mortal. Still hate that we never got that movie.
