SPAWN: Todd McFarlane Reveals Two New Animated Series Are Being Developed

Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane has spent the last few years keeping Spawn fans apprised of the progress of the planned live-action reboot, but now the writer and artist has revealed some new details on two other Spawn-related projects.

During a recent appearance at Fan Expo Canada, McFarlane reportedly revealed (via CBR) that two separate animated series are being developed and that one of these shows will be aimed at kids.

"We’re talking right now," McFarlane said. "I just had a couple meetings this weekend about a couple different animation looks, both something that we can get kids in at a younger age and then get them into the sort of crack cocaine version of Spawn. And then do the adult one. So we’re talking about that. I think both of those come after the movie."

While it doesn’t sound as if these projects are far along in development, the prospect of new Spawn animated series will likely garner a lot of interest, as the character’s previous animated outing on HBO earned a positive reception from fans and critics alike.

Aside from these possible new shows, Blumhouse is still reportedly developing a new live-action Spawn film, with Jaime Foxx and Jeremy Renner attached to star.

Two sounded ludicrous until I read why there was two. Makes sense. I’d like to see ‘em get made. And hope this movie will be any damn good. Would be nice to see Spawn get back into the public conscious.

I tried watching the HBO Spawn cartoon recently and thought it was hot garbage. I only watched one episode so maybe it got better after that.

The way this man talks is in riddles sometimes. Between him, Goldblum, and RDJ, you never have any clue what they're saying half the time.

The HBO series is a masterpiece. I would love to see a continuation of that for the "adult" one. But McFarlane is always talking out of his ass so I'll believe it when I see it.

Every time I read a quote from McFarlane I read it in my head with his voice but in a more exaggerated / mockery kind of way.....I don’t know why

I feel like he’s just willing things into existence now, using what audience there is to draw up buzz for things he wants to get out into production. I’ll believe this and the movie when I see footage

Ever see McFarland speak at a convention? Maybe he was putting on an act but I'd sware he was mildly retarded. Which is why no one will ever take him seriously and Spawn will never happen. His recent bout of director megalomania recently just underlines that any film of his creation is dead in the water.

I'm guessing the "Win Ten Minutes on Skype with Todd McFarlane" contest didn't go as well as he thought it would.

The longer his actual movie takes to come out, the more I’m losing interest. Especially after how he said Spawn would be portrayed.

Big Spawn fan here. The adult cartoon has been in development for almost as long as the new movie. Nothing new here. It promised a solid voice cast but I'll believe it when I see it.
Sort of on topic-ish: I bought Spawn Armageddon for my Game Cube a while back for around $5 at flea market and finally started playing it recently. Solid game. Fun game to play on a lazy day.

I suspect none of these projects will ever get much beyond the planning board room.

I'm not sure that many folks aside from genuine fans have much interest in seeing this realised on screen, I'm kinda "meh" myself I'm afraid. Plus the longer they delay, the less the interest.

I didn't dislike the original animation - even if there is way too much exposition, as opposed to action and plot, in it - so I would definitely give it a watch "IF" any of this goes ahead; but there is way too much more interesting stuff going on on film and TV these day for me to really care one way or another.

As for the movie, well... I need not comment on the original, we all know how that ended up... it seem there is more talk about what it's not going to be like, rather than what it will be. Add to that an ever diminishing budget (smaller than the original, which looked pretty cheap, even then) I suspect this entire franchise will end up as nothing but talk.

Since 2001 Ive read numerous articles and seen interviews that he wants to do a sequel or reboot, and that was 18 years ago, getting Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner on this is the closest we got since 2001, but 1 thing will be its downfall and that is Todd Mcfarlane himself, he has never directed anything at all or have any idea how to make a movie look at Frank Millar with the Spirit. Todd changed too much in the 1997 version and that is why itll never be a success
