Despite various conflicting rumors, it seems the true identity of Zendaya's Spider-Man: Homecoming character remains a mystery - however, while speaking to Vogue Magazine director Jon Watts does reveal some new details about Michele while explaining why he chose the 20-year-old star for the role in the first place.
Watts says his “frame of reference was Ally Sheedy in The Breakfast Club,” and that Zendaya stood out immediately in her screen test because although he had seen her Disney show, “she looked like a completely different person.”
She proved to be “an amazingly technical actor,” says Watts. She added flourishes to her character, suggesting Michelle wear no makeup and carry around her own mug of strange herbal tea. “It makes me feel like such a bozo when I’m in front of someone who is that young and already just so good at what they do,” he says.
Tell us, do you think Zendaya will actually turn out to be MJ Watson in Spider-Man: Homecoming? How about The Vulture's daughter? Is there a chance she'll just be... Peter's high-school pal, Michele?
