Marvel Studios' hunt for Star-Lord didn't result in quite as much attention as some other MCU roles. However, the decision to enlist Chris Pratt as the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise's lead generated a lot of discussion among fans.
It didn't take him long to prove James Gunn had made a perfect choice by choosing him to play Star-Lord. However, in an interview with The Playlist, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Dark Matter star Joel Edgerton has left us wondering "What If...?" by revealing he also auditioned to play Peter Quill.
"Star-Lord’s a good one, actually, because I, unlike Chris [Pratt], didn’t quite sort of understand the tone of it the way he did and the way that those guys did," the actor explained. "And I wasn’t really sure how I could be a part of that tone. And I truly think that the world is a much better place that I’m not Star-Lord, even if I had the opportunity or I did a good enough audition because it is the way it’s meant to be."
"And there was never a real conversation that it would have definitely been me. It was just, I had the opportunity to try and audition," Edgerton continued. "I just didn’t quite understand it."
It is a little difficult to imagine Edgerton as Star-Lord, especially now Pratt has made the character his own.
Many of you will have likely clicked on this article thinking we've made a mistake by mentioning Spider-Man in regards to Jennifer Connelly. After all, she's arguably known best to comic book fans for playing Betty Ross in 2003's Hulk.
However, what you might have forgotten is that Connelly voiced Karen, the voice inside the wall-crawler's suit in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. We didn't see Karen again after that, but the actress says she's open to returning to the MCU if asked.
"I would absolutely work with them," she told the site. "I think that they make great films and my husband has had such a fantastic time working with all of them and they have such a great group of actors working with them. I would absolutely do it."
At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker ditched the Stark Tech and made his own suit, so we wouldn't bank on hearing Karen's voice again. As for Edgerton, it's unclear whether he'd be interested in another superhero role, but there are lots of options out there for him.
