SPIDER-MAN: It Seems There Are No "Official" Plans In Place For New Trilogy Following NO WAY HOME

Spidey fans were very happy to hear that Sony Pictures intends to move forward with another trilogy featuring Tom Holland as the Webhead, and while those plans may indeed be in the early stages of discussion, it sounds like Amy Pascal may have jumped the gun when she revealed the news in an interview earlier today.

In THR's report on the long-time Sony Pictures producer's quotes, the trade mentions that even "though the studio has a strong relationship with Holland and Feige and hopes to continue their collaboration, there are no official plans for a trilogy at this phase."

Again, it's highly unlikely that Pascal would have made this statement if there hadn't been at least some kind of preliminary talks with Holland and Marvel Studios, but it sounds like the powers that be would rather see how Spider-Man: No Way Home does at the box office before making anything official. The threequel is arguably the most highly-anticipated comic book movie since Avengers: Endgame, so we don't imagine they'll have very much to worry about in that regard.

Of course, if recent comments from Holland are any indication, there's always a chance the actor won't want to commit to being locked into this role for another 5 or 6 years (at least).

Jon Watts is set to helm the Fantastic Four reboot for Marvel, so if and when we do get official word on more Spider-Man movies, there's a good chance a new director will be sought to (hopefully) take Peter Parker out of high school and into college - or maybe even his job at the Daily Bugle.

How would you like to see this franchise progress after No Way Home? Drop us a comment down below.

I won’t believe there is a new trilogy on the way until the after credit scenes of Spider-Man 6.

I kinda doubt Pascal would come out and say something like this but then again it’s Pascal so 🤷‍♂️

@PantherKing - I mean, when the first Venom movie came out her and Kevin Feige were doing an interview and she tried to say Venom was part of the MCU, and Feige had to shoot it down right then and there.

So I'm not putting a anything past Amy Pascal and trying to have Sony movies piggyback off the MCU's success.

Oh Amy...

I asked my contact about this when the "news" broke this morning, and I was told "I'll believe it when Kevin says it." Words of wisdom there...

Pascal has a vested interest in there being more Holland Spider-man films (she loses a job when these movies end), so its also not surprising that she is saying these things outloud to stir up interest, etc.

@HeavyMetal4Life - She also claimed Venom was in the MCU back when the first one released and Feige had to shoot it down.

She'll say anything to ride off the MCU's success.

@CorndogBurglar - yeah. She isn't in this for the love of the characters, she is in it for herself (i.e. money).

@CorndogBurglar - After seeing Venom 2 she didn't lie. It just seems like she's spoiling all the surprise early. Unlike Disney she just doesn't care about secrets and surprises if it will create buzz for the current film. She was the money and power to will it into existence as Avi Arad and Amy Pascal were involved in all the Marvel Projects since Blade 1999.

@mastakilla39 - She did lie at the time. The idea back then was not to have Venom jump over to the MCU. That was back before Sony tried to take Spidey back. Back before Sony and Marvel made a new deal. There's no way she could have known any of this would have happened back then.

The first Venom movie came out almost an entire year before Sony tried to take back Spidey.

@CorndogBurglar - Thats the thing I think she knew it was going to happen. Sony/Marvel have planned this all out and I think Amy Pascal knows exactly where the MCU and their Sony marvel characters are all going towards. She isn't just as tight lip about it as Marvel/Feige.

Feige said in 2019, "[Spider-Man] also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

I think part of the Spiderman shared package deal is to allow Sony some flexibility in the MCU and their timeline. Not saying they can force Venom into the MCU but they can definitely sell all their films as being part of it due to the multi-verse theory and sharing the same spiderman actor.

@HeavyMetal4Life - This is exactly what i said yesterday, i will believe it when Feige and Tom acknowledge it. Until then its just Amy getting excited... and Feige playing clean up crew to her statements. Even Tom acknowledging a 'bright future' doesn't sound like a contract has been signed yet as his statements are just too vague.

@mastakilla39 - considering Feige lets people know about the current movie they are involved in (and only part of that if they are an actor) i would doubt Amy knows the 'plan' going forward with the MCU... Feige would be having an anxiety attack every day thinking about Amy spilling the beans and ruining the whole franchise.

After No way home broke the internet yesterday how could they say no at this point?

I got excited about the prospect of more Feige then I thought about more Sony:(

Don't get me wrong Raimi Spiderman 2 is GOAT for me but wasn't Feige involved with that?

@0bstreperous - Kevin was somewhat of an "advisor", but his official title for this film was, "Executive Producer". He gave lots of advice for the non-MCU Marvel films and was ignored many times; thus he helped create Marvel Studios.

That'll teach'em to ignore him!
