SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Tom Holland Talks Possible FANTASTIC FOUR Cameo And His MCU Future (Exclusive)

Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland talks to us about why he wouldn't necessarily want to make a cameo appearance in Jon Watts' Fantastic Four movie and putting Peter Parker on the shelf for a while.

After helming three Spider-Man movies for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, director Jon Watts will next bring the Fantastic Four back to the big screen in a reboot that will introduce Marvel's First Family to the MCU. Nothing has been revealed about the movie beyond a logo, though there is one obvious team-up fans are hoping to see.

In the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #1 in 1963, the teenaged Peter Parker attempted to join the team before learning Mister Fantastic, Invisible Girl, Human Torch, and The Thing weren't looking to turn their quartet into a quintet. A relationship was formed that would last decades, though, with Spidey actually becoming part of the group on several occasions.

Last week, we spoke to Tom Holland about his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home and asked the actor whether he's interested in reuniting with Watts to recreate that iconic first meeting.

"I think, for me, as the guy that plays Spider-Man - so you could say that I know him the best - I think what’s important is that he needs to take a break," Holland says. "We need to allow the audiences to let him breathe and figure out tonally how we’re going to bring this character back, if we bring this character back. You know, I think him popping up for a cameo would defeat the purpose."

"While I’d love to be in that film [because] I love Jon and would be really excited to see what he does with the Fantastic Four," he continued, pondering his future as the hero, "I think what we need to do with Spider-Man is let it breathe and almost let the audience tell us what they want."

It has previously been reported that when Disney and Sony reached a new agreement, it was for Spider-Man: No Way Home and at least one more MCU cameo appearance. For now, it doesn't look like that will be Fantastic Four, though there's nothing to say Peter can't cross paths with Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben somewhere down the line.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will exclusively be released in cinemas from December 15th!

Totally forgot Watts is going to direct F4

@Fogs - I'm worried about Watts directing Fantastic Four, just look at the Spidey movies. The supporting cast are terrible and the humour is shit.

I only watch them for Spider-Man and whoever the villain is.

@marvel72 - I'm a fan of the villains. Despite the excessive Stark connections I liked both Vulture and Mysterio.

The beef I got with the support cast would be more on the characters themselves (no Mary Jane, no Harry) than the actors. I like Batalon, he has a nice dynamic with Holland. It's like teens are nowadays.

Sounds like the writers' decisions are to worry here IMO.

@marvel72 - yep agreed. The supporting cast are simply terrible, especially when you compare to what Raimi delivered. And the cheesy humour 🤮

Can't see a Fantastic Four cameo happening but I'd love to see a Human Torch team-up.

@marvel72 - Or a one shot would be nice. Is that still a thing?

@marvel72 - their most 'fooled' edits are ones where 99% of it is existing footage and they add one quick tweaked scene that gets all the fanboys screaming.

Is it just me or is Tom Holland channelling Dave Lisewski from Kick-Ass?

Spider-Man doesn’t really need a break. Tom as Spider-Man does though for the sake of his career. He needs to make five or six none Spider-Man films in a row. Gain some more experience to introduce a little more to Spider-Man when he puts the suit back in. Of course though, it raises the question of “Where’s Spider-Man?”

Doubt Sony think Spider-Man needs a break. Bet the next one is being released in 2024 (just like Fantastic Four)

Would be surprised if he didn't cameo given the director, and his friendship with Jhonny.

@BringFFtoMCU -

Speak for yourself mate.

I know plenty of fans who want a more focused solo film for spidey and I’m one of them.

I’m not against other marvel characters appearing in MINOR capacities like Wong in Shang Chi, but the next film shouldn’t be a team up film, in my opinion.

@HulkisHorny - Unless it's with Daredevil against the New York City underworld in a much darker film.

Spider-man vs. Kingpin. Throw in The Enforcers and Crime Master and have Foswell as a major supporting character with thesame arc from the comics.

You know what? Never mind, they'd have to read the comics for that. What am I thinking?

For as much as I want Spidey to team up with the F4... For the first F4 solo, I just want it to focus on the F4 exclusively.

I want the movie to almost make you forget it's in the MCU.

I know that they're heavily rumored for Quantumania, but I'd love if the showed up in a post-credits scene. I would settle for a reference, though.
