A Darker Spiderman huh?

Figured I'd give my two cents, because after the recent Marc Webb interview I realized way too many people keep asking if this movie is gonna be darker.

It's like almost every interview I watch they ask the same question. And they always answer essentially "No"! It will be more realistic and relatable but darker I don't think so. You can pretty much tell by the clips and trailers Spiderman is more comedic this time around. I agree the danger and death need to be around in the movie I didn't get that out of the Raimi trilogy I was never really worried. I don't expect for Spiderman to be tossing Two-Face off a building leave the dark stuff to The Dark Knight. I wanna see a wisecracking jerk out of Spiderman that is the true Spiderman. Why do people feel that every superhero movie needs to be dark. Now even Superman in the Man of Steel is gonna follow the Dark Knight path. I don't have anything against them in fact I love the new Batman movies and Batman was meant to be dark not Spiderman or even Superman. I think majority of people just wanna see a darker Spiderman so the keep mentioning it in hopes that its true. Honestly though I am excited for the Amazing Spiderman and i think Andrew Garfield will be an excellent Peter Parker because he is a good actor and looks the part but also because this Peter is more nerdy and sympathetic. Also I kinda wanted to hear your guys thoughts I know I'm not the writer or anything but I just thought it'd be cool if the called the sequel the Spectacular Spiderman and the third movie the Ultimate Spiderman. You know instead of it just being called Amazing Spiderman 2. Anyways maybe not everyone will agree with me on the darker thing but thats ok I just thought i'd throw it in.

I'm looking forward to TASM. Looks great to me. As for Superman, the story will probably be somewhat darker, but that doesn't mean Superman himself is going to be dark. I'm really looking forward to that as well.

You read my mind, I actually thought the same for the titles. Although that might not be the best if they plan to do more than three movies. Think about it:

Spidey movie 1: The Amazing Spiderman

(These other Titles don't have to be in that order)

Spidey movie 2: The Spectacular Spiderman

Spidey movie 3: The Ultimate Spiderman

Spidey movie 4: Um... The Incredible Spiderman (That could work)

Spidey movie 5: Um............ The Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman (Still could work)

But what if they won't reboot the franchise yet and they're going for Spidey movie 6?

You are so right @hunt2C, Peter LOOOOVVVESS to crack wise.
Almost every other thing he says is sarcasm , which is one of the things I love about his character- it's so incongruous of your status quo super-hero. His wise cracking makes him relatable and very 'average joe', which is great!
He's not a dark, brooding introvert...at all.

Although , there's room for Superman to be dark- he has a reason to be:
He's an orphan/alien from a dead planet with no one else like himself. ( Supergirl,Powergirl, etc. not relevant here-they're not in the movie).
So it's acceptable that he might have a chip on his shoulder. In fact, I feel he's better served with one!
So yeah, a little 'dark' for Clark is healthy.

Marc Webb has stated numerous times that he wants to find the right balance between funny, whimsical and serious.

I'm not saying it needs to practically be a comedy movie. It has to be serious or the audience won't take it seriously. I just mean it doesn't have to be bloody, dark, and depressing or like giving Peter Parker a drinking problem or some crap like that. Honestly because I feel for Peter I'm in high school and I get picked on and not a lot of friends and movies are like my escape. So I have a lot of respect for Andrew Garfield speech at comic con and his whole feeling for spiderman I feel like he gets it.

We already have a darker Spider-man.

Look at that black...costume.
:) Jk. (not racist. i'm black and i love miles.)

In all seriousness though, I agree. Spider-man needs to be fun, not bogged down and depressing.

I don't understand how anyone can misinterpret that this film will be darker than what the source material already is and darker than what the Raimi films portrayed. Considering that Peter is a teenager who is bullied, an orphan and has to deal with the death of his uncle, Webb doesn't have much to do to make it dark. All he is doing, in my opinion, is grounding the emotional core and tone of the film in reality and by doing so will make the overall film feel appropriately darker and more serious than than campy tone of the Raimi films. Surprisingly, ASM may end up being a very funny film.

Raimis' films were good but they were never near as close to the comics as TASM. i would like to see Marc Webb go far with these movies but stick to the comics.
