Right now, it's 3:25.
I should be sleeping for my finals, but instead I'm here, hoping that this article will alleviate the hate the aforementioned movie has been recieveing from fellow users on this site, one in particular that even compared it to Batman and Robin, a comparison that should've NEVER been made.
Now, reviews are subjective, but based on the material included within his, I'm forced to think that the individual who made it was reaching or searching for things to pick on.
Again, this is just my opinion of his review that I am stating now. Also, this will be my first post as well. I've lingered on the site, enjoying the randomness of the comment section and all the latest comic book movie news this site has to offer. It is truly an amazing site. Since, that's out of the way ---
On to the review.
Wow.
Amazing.
Spectacular.
These are only a few words to describe The Amazing Spiderman 2. It is the best "Spider-Man" film yet trumping even the second one of Sam Raimi's trilogy. In fact, I would say it was better than the latest Captain America film.
Yes, ladies and gentleman, that good. Don't expect something equal to The Dark Knight. While a compelling film, it lacked the superior acting of a superbly written villain like the Joker although Jamie Fox and Dane DeHaan make for a fearsome duo on screen.
I found there villains (Amazing Spider-man 2) to be quite cynical, especially Jamie Fox's. I remember people complaining about how Spider-man didn't want to be his friend and that's why it was stupid of him to become so filled with hatred and anger.
No.
If they watched the film, they would learn that Max Dillon is an extremely socially-deprived individual and is alone in the world. His reasoning for using his acquired ability for destruction comes on the basis of being rejected and ridiculed by his peers. The background information provided on his character before his "change" is excellently projected. Jamie Fox makes him an ackward, manical, almost crazed character. And it works so well. The role is brillaintly acted by Fox as he emulates a character viewers can sympathize with, later in the film becoming increasingly sinister.
The special effects for Electro were great. I didn't see anything that resembled, "plasticy" or something of that nature. He looked very good and the worries beforehand about it looking like a video-game should be layed to rest. All the special effects are breathtaking, from Spider-man slinging, to Electro zapping objects with his electricity.
If I had to rate Jamie Fox's Electro, I'd give him a 9/10.
Now, onto Dane DeHaan. I won't give away specifics but, there is a scene he's involved in with Chris Cooper who as we all SHOULD know plays Norman Osborn. Chris Cooper does an FANTASTIC job as Norman Osborn, albeit, (SPOILER ALERT?) there's very little of him. His initial scene is beautifully executed giving him a damning vibe as well as a dark, brooding one at that. Anyway, back to Dane.
DeHaan flourishes in the Amazing Spider-man 2. He doesn't do quite as well as Jamie Fox, but makes for a solid execution of his character. ALTHOUGH; he is 1000% better than James Franco's Harry. The atmosphere him and Andrew make when on the same stage is great. They really play the part of long lost friends. His character throughout the film is set very nicely --- he plays a particular role in the film that arrives at the climax. He should NOT be viewed as a main villain type of character.
The questions I bet everyone is asking is; how was the Green Goblin? Like I said, the Harry is NOT the main villain. I would say Max is, more or less. But the scenes where the GG plays in, he's . . . not exactly the most evil type of guy. His acting is ackward and forced (it seems) to be too Joker-ish. The laughing, and hissing... bleh.
But, I can forgive all of this because the action was great, he only shows up for the (SPOILER ALERT?) final minutes, and (SPOILER ALERT?) HE'S ONLY THERE TO SERVE ONE PURPOSE: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, Dane DeHaan makes for a very good Harry who's character gradually shifts as his life begins to spiral out of control. I think Dane does an excellent jo at the tone shifts with Harry, becoming increasingly more crazier and desperate so now I will rate his character. I'd give him (he's getting some marks taken off for GG) an 8/10.
Now, onto Emma Stone's character. There's only a few things I should say about this that will sum it up for you readers. She and Andrew hit it off! The chemistry between them is great, and so, so, sooo romantic. Her acting is phenomenal --- and so is Andrew's as Peter Parker. His emotional character arc is really well written, from him trying to figure out more about his parents, to trying to balance being Spider-man and his love life with Gwen. They both do a really good job!
Ratings = Andrew Garfield 10/10/ Emma Stone 10/10
To wrap things up, I wanna talk about the overall story.
It flows well, scenes naturally transitioning from one to another seamlessly. They just really mesh well together and really, the film's fluff is to just get to the finale which is just freaking EPIC. One reccurring problem I noticed was the dialogue. Ehhhh, the jokes where not the best, but I definitely did chuckle. It's not overbearingly bad but might make you wince once or twice.... maybe three times, fine! But that does not subtract from the overall brillaince of the film which plays on the emotion of the viewer.
Oh, a little note, Rhino was fine. He really doesn't appear much so not much to tell.
Overall, I would rate the film 5/5 stars. Yes, people it really is that good!!! Don't listen to what others say, just watch the film yourself (don't have expectations that it is as great as TDK).
Oh, and that ending, man that ending. It's what really solidifed the film as perfect for me. Superb acting by all the major roles, and a great plot that focuses on being alone and not loosing the things that matter most to you. This is the best comic book movie of the year, ladies and gents. On to Godzilla!
