Excuse me if i have grammar or spelling mistakes. I don’t live in an English-speaking country.

In general, the movie was fine, what i expected. Probably what you expect as well. Anyways, you don’t wanna read things that don’t mean anything so let’s just get to the point:
In the trailers, It showed how sad this man was, Max Dillon. A loser, a nobody. And then he gets his powers and he rises because there’s lots of hate inside him. But in the movie, i feel like the sadness of his life that we are supposed to feel... and this “rise” when he becomes Electro... It just doesn’t appear. He becomes Electro very very quick and every scene in which he is in before he changes, there is a joke (Another thing that i am going to talk about later) or music that doesn’t fit what’s supposed to be shown in that scene. So you don’t feel the rising, the POWER. It’s just like: Ok, this guy is the baddie now and he has superpowers. Yes, Max Dillon changes, but there’s not “badassery” in it. There’s not that feeling where you are like: Oh, everybody who screwed with him... Well, they better watch out because this guy is gonna kick their asses. You know what i’m saying? You just don’t care about him. As i said: Yes, he is more serious, and there is a scene where he says: “i just wanted everyone to look at me...” But you don’t feel the anger and hate that he has inside. From my point of view, of course. But i mean, when he first battle Spidey he says: “It’s my birthday, time to light up the candles”

“The Amazing Spiderman 2: The rise of Electro” I wouldn’t exactly call it like that. In fact, i wouldn’t know how to call it. You can’t really figure who the main villain is. And man, i can tell you something, it’s not Electro. It doesn’t feel like it. Anyways, as you may already know, there are three villains: Green Goblin, Electro and Rhino. Rhino is obviously not the main villain (I would have actually cut him out of the movie). Green Goblin and Electro... Those two. This movie really focuses on Harry Osborn, on his story. His character gets very developed. There’s a lot of things going on at Oscorp, Harry’s objective, Spiderman and Harry, Peter and Harry. And he has lots of scenes. I have to say, i absolutely loved Dane Dehaan on this film. I think they did a fantastic job casting him and writing him.

He was one of the best parts of the movie. His character gets a lot more developed than Electro’s (like, way more. From my point of view). At first, before i saw the movie, i was like: “Man, they are making Harry Osborn the First Green Goblin. That’s a sin! And his looks! OMG he looks terrible.” But they set him up perfectly. I am surprisingly fine about how he looks but that hair... If only he didn’t have that hair. Anyways it’s fine. It’s just another version. All these things happening at Oscorp, i was like: “Wow, this plot is amazing, but it should have been with Norman, instead of Harry” And one second later: “No, because that wouldn’t have made any sense”. This did not have anything to do with the source material but the plot was still awesome. So i have to say it was another version, but really cool. I enjoyed it a lot.

So as i said, he is the main villain for me, i think. Electro could have not fought Spiderman in the final battle if it had not been because of Harry. And Electro actually worked for him at one point. For me, Harry was the main villain and the movie shouldn’t have been called “the rise of Electro” at all. He even fights Spiderman in the final battle! But really, when you look at it, he only fights once against him but... Yeah, he is totally the main villain for me. It’s his story. It’s strange.

The movie really focuses a lot on Peter and Gwen’s relationship. A lot. Which is great. The second act of the film is mainly about that and about Harry/Oscorp and Richard Parker. There is not action in that part of the film but it’s good anyways. It still feels entertaining and that’s very good. A problem that i had with the first one is that it’s a little bit boring for me. The plot is boring for me. But in this one, even if there’s not action, the plot keeps you interested. So that’s awesome. Also, i like the fact that he was wearing the mask lots of times and the costume. And what i really liked as well is the fact that they really got into his personal problems and how he has to struggle with his personal life and Spiderman. Sometimes rushing to arrangements and that kind of stuff.

Moving on to comedy: I think they did it pretty bad this time. In every scene there was a joke, especially in the first act i think. There was a scene (which i think you can see because it was released as a clip) where Gwen is trying to escape from some people and Peter distracts them by throwing coffee at them and he is like: “Oh, sorry. Sorry again! Oh! I didn’t meant to do that. Damn it! Again. This is not my day” while he moves and hits them at the same time or something. It’s pretty stupid. There were other “funny” scenes of Max Dillon that take you out of the climax of his sad life. As you can see in the image, there is another scene where Spiderman puts on a fireman’s helmet. I don’t know, i just don’t like that. Marvel Studios has learned, Sony couldn’t because they didn’t release any films in 2013 to learn with. Also, remember this name: Doctor Kafka. And you’ll see.

Anyways, moving on to something else that really bugs me: They make Peter Parker a very lame character. It always feels like he doesn’t know what he is doing and he stutters more than Shia Labeouf. Most of the times, it just doesn’t feel like Peter Parker. Look, when you go see it (or if you have already seen it) just remember these words: Milady, fair lady, interview. That scene is not right.

I think it can be resumed in: Harry’s story, Peter’s father story and Peter and Gwen. That’s it. Anyways, i think, this is one of those films that is easy to dislike but it’s just what i expected. Sometimes you have to think that these movies are just made to entertain us (although when a movie is bad, is bad). I enjoyed this movie. It’s fun. But it just makes me feel more and more in love with Marvel Studios. They are doing a better job, i think. Winter Soldier was too awesome. But you know, Spiderman is a difficult character to adapt to the big screen and make it perfect (from my point of view).

Hang on, is the movie officially called "The Amazing Spider-man: Rise of Electro"? That sounds like utter crap to me.

Good review, btw. I heard the same things: that the Electro character is pretty unrelatable, ridiculously cheesy, and really not all that interesting either. I'm not looking forward to his screentime, which is unfortunate because Jaime Foxx is a great actor and it sounds like he's wasted here. I've also heard the same thing about the attempts at humor as well. I never had high hopes for this movie and I keep hearing that it's really not much better than the 1st one.

What makes you say marvel learned how to balance comedy? Cuz WS was well balanced? That's cuz they had great directors to understand where to place the comedy. Iron Man 3 was funny because RDJ was having fun. It wasn't the best placed comedy but it all worked. It wasn't flat just a huge amount of it. Took some weight from the film but it was still funny. Thor had well balanced comedy. It was just a terrible film but i felt the comedy was well placed. The Selvig scenes were worst than the Darcy scenes.

You're allowed to not think things are funny but this weird thing where people think all these films should be dark and not funny is annoying. It's a firkin comic book movie. You need totake it seriously but have a lot of fun doing it. It's about people with powers doing crazy things meeting aliens and monsters. It's ridiculous. I enjoy the comedy in the films. It's more realistic. Life isn't drama drama drama. It's ups and downs. The comics have loads of comedy. Spider-Man makes a joke after every other line. Stan Lee isn't serious at all.

@Wallymelon
I'm not saying these movies shouldn't be funny. 'Cause they should. Amazing Spiderman was too dark for me with all those secrets and conspiracies and all. That's not the Spiderman style. So yeah, i want these movies to be funny. But well balanced. I personally thought that Iron Man 3's comedy was well distributed. Although Thor's not so much. Seriously. But i still mentioned Iron Man 3 because everybody says that it was too funny so maybe Marvel also learned from that movie. Although as i said, i think its humor was great.

Nice review, BaronZemo. That does sound like what I expect this film to be, on the whole.

Comedy can of course be good or bad, depending on whether there is the right amount, and on the quality of the writing/directing/performing. Too much and the whole thing becomes a joke/campy.

I also thought that Iron Man 3 worked well, partly because Tony Stark can joke around while still clearly being dramatically affected, or even depressed. It's still a very serious film. Thor: The Dark World, on the other hand, struck me as misguided in its humor.
