The review embargo for Spider-Man: Far From Home lifted yesterday, and it looks like yet another critical and commercial hit for Marvel Studios (well, Sony Pictures, but Kevin Feige and company were the ones in charge of the sequel creatively). Now, there's more good news for the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel as it's officially been "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes.

115 reviews have been counted and the movie currently has a score of 90%.

The Critics Consensus, meanwhile, describes Spider-Man: Far From Home as "A breezily unpredictable blend of teen romance and superhero action, Spider-Man: Far from Home stylishly sets the stage for the next era of the MCU." There probably aren't that many reviews left to be counted, so that score is unlikely to change and will more than likely remain in the 90s for now.

In related news, Jake Gyllenhaal has shared a funny video in which he reveals what he did following the recent world premiere of Spider-Man: Far From Home

It's clearly not easy being Mysterio, eh?

Spider-Man: Far From Home has already opened in China and is expected to perform well in North America all next week, too. In fact, many analysts believe that this will be the first Spider-Man movie to gross $1 billion at the worldwide box office and if that is indeed the case, we can definitely expect Sony's relationship with Marvel Studios to continue for the foreseeable future.

@Forthas - Wait isn't the RT audience score your go to when arguing whether people like a film or not, yet now you Boo them?

Interesting!

@LongMayHeReign - I actually generally have no problem with the audience score BUT it is now well known that the audience score can be manipulated. I used to believe in the critic score also, but i think that studios are influencing the scores in subtle ways and now the critic scores are more often out of touch with the audience. So I am throwing the baby out with the bath water and saying...Hello Metacritic!!

@Forthas - How interesting that just NOW you say the audience score can be manipulated, yet when Dark Phoenix came out a mere 3 weeks ago it was 100% a factual and reliable way to document how the fans/audience truly felt about the FOX-Men franchise.

@LongMayHeReign -

I did say that when Dark Phoenix came out the audience score was a more accurate refection of the quality...BECAUSE THERE IS NO REASON TO BELIEVE that specific audience score was affected negatively. In fact if anything it would probably be depressed by crazy Marvel trolls who depressed the box office and cost Marvel millions. But there is no evidence for that. We know that the audience score COULD be manipulated because there are two instances where there is evidence that it could have happened not to mention that Rotten Tomatoes changed the way to vote because of a fear of manipulation.

LongMayHeReign - 6/28/2019, 6:36 PM
@Forthas - Last time I checked RT changed the way the audience score is counted well before DP's release, so A) The only way "Marvel trolls" could depress the score was to have actually seen it first and even then they can only do it once, and B) In what instances since this change has the audience score shown evidence of possible manipulation? On multiple occasions you have expressed that the audience score is proof that the critics out of touch so now it can't be trusted on whim?

You make no sense!

@LongMayHeReign -

A) You obviously are not reading what I wrote...

"BECAUSE THERE IS NO REASON TO BELIEVE that specific audience score was affected negatively"

That was a reference to Dark Phoenix. I am stating that there is no reason for me to think it was affected. IF....it was it would have been lowered from where it should be.

B) I am not saying there has been an instance where the audience score has been manipulated since Rotten Tomatoes changed the way they can score a film. In fact since they changed it the disparity between the critic score and the audience score has been more pronounced. I am now using Metacritic because the CRITIC score is the issue. that score is the one that seems out of touch with audiences and I tend to agree with the audience score more often than not. Since Rotten Tomatoes uses the critic score to determine what is fresh or rotten then it is useless.

@Forthas - You do realize that the Metascore is in essence just the average rating on RT right?

Dark Phoenix's RT average score is 4.6/10 and it's Metascore is 43/100. How does that equate to RT critics being out of touch?
Forthas
Forthas - 6/28/2019, 7:28 PM
@LongMayHeReign - Rotten Tomatoes does not use the "average" score to determine the Fresh or Rotten rating, if they did I would be more receptive to it. The critics are out of touch because they are asked if a film should be seen or not...a binary choice...yes or no...and the "critics" in many cases (especially in the case of Dark Phoenix) DON'T give the film the benefit of the doubt and the result is a disparity between what the critics say is good and what the audience says. The critical score stressed by Metacritic is what Rotten Tomatoes should be using (its average score) and stressing to determine Fresh and Rotten ratings.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 6/28/2019, 7:40 PM
@Forthas - See that's not true. I have seen Mark Ellis for instance who is an approved RT critic say many times that he does not get to choose whether or not a review of his is deemed fresh or rotten if it is borderline, RT makes that call. What the criteria for how RT makes that borderline call is unknown but they make that call nonetheless.

@Forthas - Classic cherry picking to whatever serves your miserable outlook. Knock it off already.
