Spider-Man: Homecoming has finally swung into theaters and with current estimates pointing to a $42 million Friday, a $100 million opening weekend is pretty much guaranteed. In fact, it looks like the reboot will go as high as $105 million, a figure way above initial estimates of around only $80 million.
It helps, of course, that Thursday night screenings ended up bringing in $15.4 million. That's way above the $10 million - $13 million predictions we got this morning and miles above Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (a sign that the franchise is finally on the road to recovery after a decade oof mediocrity). That's also the third highest preview number of the year behind only Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Wonder Woman. Needless to say, Sony Pictures has to be very happy with this result.
A sequel has already been confirmed but these numbers should help ensure the partnership between Marvel and Sony stays in place for a very long time to come. As always, stay tuned for further updates!
