There is a long list of Spider-Man villains who have yet to appear on the big screen, but that doesn't stop fans from wanting to see a return for the likes of Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus. However, when Nerdist caught up with Spider-Man: Homecoming executive producer Eric Caroll and asked if we'll get to see Norman Osborn and Otto Octavius in the sequel, his answer was a disappointing one!
"We want to tread lightly with what’s been done in the past films in terms of, like, the Osborns, and things like that," he confirmed. "So I don’t think, we’re not going directly down that route any time soon." Sadly, that makes sense, especially after that family played such a huge role in the first two Spider-Man franchises with mixed results. Alfred Molina's Doc Ock would also be hard to top, but star Tom Holland still fancies taking him on sooner rather than later.
"I love Doc Ock. I think ‘Spider-Man 2’ is one of the greatest superhero movies ever made. But I think Venom is someone I’d love to kick the crap out of one day." That last comment will make some of you very happy, but Caroll was quick to point out that Venom may not get the chance to make the leap into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the near future due to that upcoming solo outing.
"There’s a Venom movie in development. We have not been told of [any characters] we’re not allowed to play with at the moment. [Sony] do have their own plans. What it is at the moment, we’re not sure what it is after this." What do you guys think about these comments?
