Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally playing in theaters, and now it's time for you, ComicBookMovie.com's readers, to share your thoughts on a title many are already hailing as one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.

In 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse exceeded expectations both critically and commercially, ultimately winning an Oscar.

That's understandably led to there being a huge amount of excitement for this follow-up, and between its 95% Rotten Tomatoes score and the fact it's currently the highest-rated Marvel title on IMDb, we'd say it succeeded in living up to that. A global box office debut of over $200 million is also suitably spectacular.

Of course, we know you'll have your own thoughts on the latest Marvel (not Marvel Studios) movie, especially after that huge cliffhanger ending. On that note, this article is also designed to give you somewhere to share all your spoiler-filled takes on what played out in Miles Morales' big screen return.

Yes, you can discuss everything from The Prowler's shocking live-action cameo to Miles' villainous doppelganger!

"A contender for the best Spider-Man film yet and easily the greatest animated movie ever made," we said in our review"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a jaw-dropping spectacle, a feast for the senses, and an instant Marvel classic."

That's what we thought, but now it's time to cast your vote in the poll below to share your verdict. We're keeping this simple with star ratings, and you'll be able to check back here later this week for the results.

Then, make sure to head to the comments section where you can weigh in with your spoilery thoughts on the Sony Pictures sequel.

Best movie of 2023 and best Spider-Man movie!

@MarvelZombie616 - What is the deal with people? This movie was long, boring( compared to the first.) And was basically Gwen's story. Spiderman 2 will always be the best.

I didn't much care for it.

I don't think about movies in terms of numbers or stars, but I thought the movie was pretty good! I'm not as high on it as a lot of people I see, but it was a lot of fun.

I honestly thought ITSV was a better movie.
Had a great time with this though, the lack of real ending hurt it though.

When it finished I almost didn't believe that was it, the ending just felt a bit too slow and dragged out.
The Miles as Prowler reveal wasn't a big enough "WOW" moment for a cliffhanger and they didn't even end on that, the movie carries on for another 10 or so minutes after that reveal

@Chappers - I agree…
The dude in my theater yelled ‘what the fck’ when the to be continued sign appeared.
I myself didn’t know it was supposed to be a two parter and I was disappointed in this movie not having its own resolution.

Repost Review.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, I gave it 4 Stars / 5 Stars. Too much talking in the middle little, long could have cut 20 minutes from this movie it felt slow compared to the first movie. The ending I really didn't like. I think it will hurt multiple viewings second weekend the legs for this movie.

This might be nitpicky, but is "police captain dies for/because of Spider-Man" really such a cliche in Spider-Man mythos as this movie makes it out to be? Like, at the top of my head, the original 616, Ultimate Universe and the first TASM movie's George Stacys and Miles' dad in the PS4 game are the only examples I can think of. Raimi trilogy, the three MCU Spider-Man movies (so far), all of the various cartoon shows, video games and some of the bigger alternative universe comic series (Noir, 2099,Spider-Girl etc.) didn't have it IIRC.

I dunno, maybe it is more common than I'm giving them credit for, but certainly not to same degree as "every Spider-Man origin has a tragic death".

@FinnishDude - I think it was more just general commentary on how with each superhero, these backstory clichés just are always repeating. The altruistic police captain just happened to fit best for the movie's narrative.
But you're not nitpicking, because I think you're already highlighting what will be Mile's POV in the third part. That heroes are more than just the sum of bad events in their lives. That no matter how much certain tragedies seems to influence hero's growth as a character, no event is so defining that the hero couldn't be who they are without it. Just as you pointed out, we can always find good adaptations of the character without certain backstory elements. MCU just did a great Spider-man origin set-up, without Uncle Ben at all. Yes, there were other parental characters, but if someone had told beforehand, that MCU's Spider-man will apparently be done completely without even mentioning such a fundamental part of mythos, people would've been skeptical to say the least. And IMO, it worked.

@FinnishDude - in the comics its mile's mom who dies. the father dying trope seems to be from the insomniac game that was super popular.

works for the movie but its not a cliche from the comics.

CBM of the year (most likely) and so far my favorite movie of the year in general

Loved this movie so much. Such a perfect translation of what a joyful and artistic medium that comics can be, and everything was designed and rendered with so much originality and attention to detail. Isaac was a [frick]ing bad-ass as Miguel and Spider-Man India is like the best south asian representation I've seen from a major superhero thing ever.
Also something I love is how they depict Miles still being young and coming to his own just through his movements - the way he swings, runs and jumps are so energetic, and really sell that home. Beyond excited for the next one

There's so many cool small things in this too. The LEGO segment felt like it was ripped right out of Lord/Miller's LEGO movie universe, and almost felt like them getting their final say on it since Universal own those rights now. Just read that they gave a kid they found on youtube the opportunity to animate the whole sequence, which makes the whole thing even cooler.

@tmp3 - apparently a 14 year old designed and animated the Lego scene. L and M saw his work online

Honestly it felt totally out of place to me, especially as there was no further interaction in the movie

Saw it over the weekend. Thought it was pretty good. I also like the wrinkle to Miles origin that the spider that bit him is from a different universe and that technically Miles/Spiderman was not supposed to happen and that there is a universe out there with no Spiderman.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 6/5/2023, 12:48 PM
Highest of high tier superhero fiction and a visual masterpiece. It’s a testament to the entire crew behind this movie how a scene like the one between Miles and his mum could have all the heart and sincerity of some of the best acted/written/directed stuff put to screen, and it’s animated. I honestly can’t sing this movie’s praises enough.

Into the spider-verse is better, but, this one was pretty damn awesome. i think it dragged alittle at times and was over-ambitious and that may have hurt it alittle. All in all, i really liked it but for me the first is better

I suggest people to go back and rewatch Spider-Man No Way Home as it has a much more important Spider-Verse impact. It explains why only a few villains crossed over and why some of the villains from Across the Spider-Verse were affected as well. And that cameo in Morpheus with Vulture makes more sense now.

Did the cliffhanger suck? Yes. But damn was it a wild ride from beginning to end. The best comic book movie ever just got topped by its sequel.
