Earlier today, we finally got a new look at Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and the gorgeous new trailer was packed full of epic moments and stunning visuals.
The movie, which is the first half of what's expected to be a two-part conclusion to the animated trilogy, will raise the stakes and explore the scope of the Spider-Verse in a way the first instalment only really hinted at. With that in mind, we're not exactly shocked this trailer was full of epic teases and pretty sizeable reveals regarding this version of the Multiverse.
In this feature, we're delving into all those big moments and reveals, bringing you our definitive guide to the next Spider-Man movie. Along the way, we speculate about where this franchise could be heading and what those easy-to-miss Easter Eggs and references are really laying the groundwork for.

7. Meet The Spot
The trailer wastes no time in introducing us to The Spot but, at this point, neither Miles Morales nor those watching this sneak peek can take him seriously.
As he attempts to pull off a robbery here, it quickly becomes apparent that the villain doesn't have much control over his abilities. However, we've been told that he's the big bad in both Across the Spider-Verse and Beyond the Spider-Verse, suggesting that when he does figure them out, the scientist-turned-supervillain is going to be a threat to the entire Spider-Verse.
That's strongly hinted at later on in this trailer when we catch a glimpse of The Spot presumably discovering the extent of his powers and leaving every world in danger, as a result.
6. An MCU Reference
"Don't even get me started on Doctor Strange and the little nerd back on Earth-199999," Miguel O'Hara rants at Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy at one point in the trailer.
You shouldn't need us to tell you that's a reference to the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it sounds like yet another problem Spider-Man 2099 has faced while attempting to protect the Multiverse. We're not sure what's led to him taking on this mission, but it appears to have driven Miguel to near-madness, no great surprise when you stop and think about it.
The scale of the Spider-Verse is endless, and Miguel has found himself seemingly forced to wrangle all these web-slingers together into some sort of Spider Society. The pressure is getting to him, and he's no fan of the MCU's Peter Parker.
5. Meet Mayday
After he returned to his own world in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, things must have worked out between Peter B. Parker and Mary Jane Watson. They've now had a child, Mayday Parker, someone who shares her father's amazing abilities.
In the comic books, she grows up to be Spider-Girl. Peter B. would have to be aged up significantly between Across and Beyond the Spider-Verse for us to actually see her suit up as a teenager, but we're hoping this still leads to something big for the character down the line.
Remember, there were once rumblings about a female-led spin-off set in this world and while that appears to have fallen by the wayside, the nature of the Spider-Verse means we could quite easily meet another Mayday in a project like that.
4. Spider-Gwen's Peter Parker
Sacrifice looks set to be a big part of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, with all of these heroes having lost someone in their journeys to becoming a superhero.
In Gwen's case, it seems that was her world's Peter Parker. Now, in the comic books, he became The Lizard after becoming desperate to emulate his hero (Spider-Woman/Spider-Gwen) and escape those bullying him, eventually dying in his friend's arms following this ill-fated attempt to also become a superhero.
Interestingly, this Peter is decked out in a Spider-Man costume, suggesting we're getting a change to Gwen's origin story. Then again, it's possible this is another web-slinger and a misdirect of sorts.
3. Saving One Person Or The Spider-Verse
For whatever reason, Miguel O'Hara seems to be giving Miles Morales a choice: save his father and doom the Multiverse or allow his dad to die in order to protect reality.
We have no idea why such a harrowing decision would be presented to the teenager, but it could just be that's the way his story is meant to go. Miles, however, plans to defy that and believes he can do both, a sentiment Spider-Man 2099 most definitely doesn't seem to agree with.
As a result, Brooklyn's Spider-Man finds himself not only forced to try and overcome the terrible fate that awaits his father but also the target of pretty much every single web-slinger in existence.
2. Betrayal
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse saw Miles make a number of new allies, though he grew particularly close with both Peter B. Parker and Spider-Gwen.
If what we see in this trailer is any indication, they're aware of whatever Spider-Man 2099's plan is, not to mention his quest to capture or stop Miles from saving his father. That moment of betrayal really stings the teenager, and we're guessing it means he'll spend much of this sequel fending for himself.
That's not a bad way to turn him into a superhero in his own right, of course, though if Peter B. and Gwen were willing to do this, we believe Miguel must be more than the unhinged bully shown here. After all, surely the safety of every universe comes before one life? Not if you're Spider-Man...
1. Spider-Man vs. The Spider-Verse
There are once again more Spider-Men (and women!) in this trailer than we can count, though perhaps not as many familiar faces this time around...at least not ones we haven't already seen.
The finger-pointing meme being recreated in this way is brilliant and we're glad to see Insomniac's Spider-Man front and centre. We just hope Sony has enlisted Yuri Lowenthal for a voice cameo! Regardless, all of these wall-crawlers will be taking aim at Miles in an action sequence that promises to be nothing short of jaw-dropping.
How can the teenager overcome such a huge threat? Well, perhaps other spider-heroes out there don't buy into Miguel's extremist way of thinking.
