BIRD BOX Star Sandra Bullock Shoots Down Speculation She's Joining Sony's Spider-Man Universe As Madame Web

We're not sure this was ever actually a rumour, but during a recent talk show appearance, Bird Box star Sandra Bullock was quick to shoot down claims she's being eyed to take on the role of Madame Web...

It's always fun when an actor or actress is asked about a big superhero movie rumour (remember Paul Rudd denying any sort of involvement with Ant-Man weeks before his casting was made official?), but this is a weird one. During last night's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Bird Box star Sandra Bullock was asked about her possible involvement with Spider-Man: No Way Home

Wait, what?!

Apparently, there's a rumour doing the rounds that she's set to play Madame Web in the Marvel Studios movie - and presumably Sony Pictures' planned solo movie - but that's news to Bullock. "You know what? If that were a rumor that my son had heard, do you know how much I would get him to do in the house? I would be so successful in my requests," she joked. "Who did they say I was going to be, like his grandmother or something?"

When the host mentioned Madame Web, she responded: "Why was I not hired for this? What happened to the talks? I don’t think I’m Marvel material. I’ve never been approached by Marvel. I understand why people lie to you, but I have never been approached, ever."

This so-called "rumour" appears to have originated from a piece of fan-art that's done the rounds based solely on the fact that Bullock wore a blindfold in Bird Box and that Madame Web also wears one in the comic books! As a result, we're willing to go out on a limb here and assume she really doesn't know anything.

Talking of ridiculous rumours, it's also been reported that Sony Pictures has plans for Sandman and Rhino movies, a possible sign that the studio is committed to these spinoffs which put Spider-Man's foes front and centre. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but with Morbius and Kraven the Hunter on the horizon, perhaps it's not that hard to believe after all, eh?

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in U.S. on December 17 and in the UK on December 15.
