Despite overwhelmingly negative reviews for movies like Venom and Morbius, Sony Pictures continues to attract top-tier talent to its Marvel movies, leaving fans to ponder the same question:
Do these actors believe that, when they join Sony's Marvel Universe, it's the same thing as signing up for the MCU?
If so, it might be the greatest con in Hollywood history as we've seen Madame Web assemble a spectacular ensemble that includes names like Dakota Johnson, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott. Regardless, there's a lot of intrigue surrounding the movie and its place in the wider SPUMC (Sony Pictures' Universe of Marvel Characters).
Talking to Deadline recently, the latter shared his excitement for the movie, describing it as "really, really fun" before adding that co-star Johnson is "terrific." He'd go on to say that, "It’s a really great set. I think it’s going to be a really cool movie."
In the same interview, Scott was asked about Apple TV+'s Severance, though the actor wasn't willing to share any season 2 details. He did, however, confirm that production on the next batch of episodes begins "really soon" (news we're sure many of you are going to welcome).
It was recently reported that Scott is playing Ben Parker, Spider-Man's uncle, in Madame Web. The prevailing theory is that the title character's mission will be to protect a pregnant Mary Parker, though we're guessing she ultimately fails seeing as this world doesn't have a Spider-Man.
It's a weird one, that's for sure, though we are pleased to hear that Scott is having fun working on the project. Cameras are still rolling, of course, so it could be a while before we get a first look.
S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) is directing Madame Web from a screenplay by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The movie is currently expected to swing into theaters on July 7, 2023.
