Morbius opened to overwhelmingly negative reviews and dismal box office figures, but the movie has still garnered a bizarre cult following online since it was released. Essentially the butt of many, many jokes, Sony Pictures' Marvel Comics adaptation even ended up being re-released in theaters, only to flop all over again.
"It's Morbin' Time!" has become something of a calling card for those claiming to want a sequel, and for those of you who already have multiple copies of the movie on Blu-ray and your walls adorned with Morbius posters, this highly detailed Hot Toys action figure promises to be a must-buy.
Based on Jared Leto's likeness as Dr. Michael Morbius from the movie, the 1/6th scale figure features a newly developed head sculpt with red eyes and sharp teeth, a meticulously tailored outfit, a swarm of bats to recreate the scene when Morbius summons them, several pieces of speeding effect parts, and a figure stand.
As disappointing as this final "costume" was for the anti-hero, taking a closer look at this figure just makes it all the more disappointing that Sony Pictures dropped the ball on Morbius. The character had a lot of potential, but regardless of that awkward, heavily reshot post-credits scene with The Vulture, we find it hard to believe Leto will ever reprise the role.
That stinger set the stage for a heroic version of the Sinister Six to assemble, something fans were quick to make clear was a dumb idea and not a movie they want to see. Whether Sony listens remains to be seen, but who knows with Avi Arad in charge.
"Jared Leto’s transformation makes for compelling viewing, but the Living Vampire can’t elevate a disappointing story that serves as a powerful, dare we say terrifying, reminder that Spider-Man is better off (and safer) in the MCU with Marvel Studios," we said in our review of the movie back in March.
