MORBIUS Memes Lead To Increasing Concerns That A Sequel Will Be Announced

This is too funny not to report on! It seems the internet has been fooled into believing that a sequel to Morbius has been announced thanks to a surge in memes and social media engagement.

No, Sony Pictures has not officially greenlit a Morbius sequel - but there are increasing concerns that the studio will do so after the disastrous Spider-Man spinoff was given a new lease of life through internet memes.

A mocked-up image of a CNN headline announcing plans for a sequel has been doing the rounds, and seems to have fooled quite a few people. The increase in engagement stemmed from a surge in memes and hashtags, with "It's Morbin' Time" taking on a life of its own, and people proclaiming the Daniel Espinosa-helmed movie a "misunderstood masterpiece."

Of course, most people are laughing at Morbius, not with it, but it is worth noting that the movie has been performing very well on the Apple TV+ streaming service. Morbius may not have fared particularly well at the box office, but nor was it a major flop, and respectable Blu-ray sales could potentially lead to Sony Pictures threatening us with a follow-up.

Even if a sequel doesn't materialize, we might well see Jared Leto return as dear old Mikey in whatever unholy team-up movie the studio seemed to be teasing in that post-credits scene.

What do you guys make of the "Morbius revolution"? Would you be down for a sequel... even if it's just to take the piss out of?
