Spider-Man: No Way Home seemingly brought Peter Parker's relationship with MJ to a close, and it now remains to be seen whether we see more of Zendaya's Michelle Jones-Watson in the MCU.
The character's role was greatly expanded in Spider-Man: Far From Home after we met her in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but it sounds like there were once very different plans considered for MJ. In a clip pulled from an interview prior to the latest movie's release, Zendaya is asked whether she ever asked producers to be transformed into a superhero.
"No, no, no...I -" she responded before co-star Tom Holland interjected with, "They were trying for a while, though, remember that?" Zendaya then noted, "Yeah, but I leave the superhero-ing to this one [points at Holland]." So, it sounds like Sony (and likely Marvel Studios) gave this idea some thought, but who could MJ have suited up as?
Considering this MJ is a cross between Mary Jane Watson and a newly created character for the movies, looking to the comic books doesn't offer much help.
However, we'd bet that Jackpot and Black Cat were potentially considered as it wouldn't have been that hard to retcon "MJ" into being one of those vigilantes. Had that happened, this Spider-Man trilogy would have looked a lot different, but who knows what could happen when we see MJ next! There were talks of movies for both characters once upon a time, but it's been a while since we got an update.
