SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Concept Art Features Mysterio - Was The Movie Going To Include The Sinister Six?

Some more Spider-Man: No Way Home concept art has been shared online, this time spotlighting Dr. Strange doing battle with the returning Mysterio. Was the movie going to feature the Sinister Six?

Around the time Spider-Man: No Way Home was beginning production, a rumor did the rounds that our Friendly Neighborhood Webhead would be facing off against The Sinister Six. This began to seem likely as more was revealed about the threequel and Electro and Doctor Octopus were confirmed to return, but we only ended up getting five villains.

Well, it looks like there may have been plans in place to unleash to full might of the Sinister Six after all, as some new concept art has now been shared online featuring Doctor Strange doing battle with none other than Mysterio!

Jake Gyllenhaal's Master of Illusion was seemingly killed-off at the end of Far From Home, but there was a lot of speculation that the manipulative baddie may have survived, and it seems Sony Pictures was indeed considering bringing the character back to join forces with Electro, Doc Ock, Green Goblin, The Lizard and The Sandman to oppose Tom Holland's wall-crawler and his amazing friends.

We have no idea how close this came to becoming a reality, but it does suggest that Mysterio could still return at some point, possibly as part of another incarnation of the supervillain team.

Were you guys disappointed that we didn't see the Sinister Six in Spider-Man: No Way Home, or was five villains enough? Drop us a comment down below.

The Master of Illusion vs. The Master of the Mystic Arts.

Jake was probably busy? Or maybe they thought it would be overstuffed.

Either way I expect him to return down the line. Hope he does.

I loved the move as it is. Seriously 9/10. Having said that, had things gone just a little differently I’d want to see Mysterio come back by the end. Now, I really hope they bring hum back after faking his death. If nothing else, his henchmen taking the data and running at the end of Far From Home was foreshadowing something. They have a few loose ends out there in Mysterio, Shocker and Scorpion still

This kinda implies that Mysterio might not be 100% dead and can be written back into future movies

@MeAreLegend - More than likely he will be and is alive in this universe... but having him return so soon as some suggest would have defeated his plans (which was to keep Parker away from controlling Tony's tech) as Parker would no longer be seen as a killer and irresponsible.

This would have been awesome. Him underestimating Dr Strange and picking a fight with him, just for Strange to kick his ass handily would have been great.

As much as I loved the movie it frustrates the hell out of me that they didn’t just do the full sinister six. Like, why stop at 5? Has anyone asked the writers this?

@DanFlashesShirt - if they hadn’t done the venom tease it sure they would’ve pulled topher grace too. But on the other hand he definitely wouldn’t be able to be redeemed in any way though so idk who from the other movies could be the 6th . I guess Dan Dehaan Harry ?

It would have to be an alternate universe Mysterio as MCU Mysterio had no real powers and needed a team of 30 people and weeks of prep time to pull off any of his illusions. Without that, he's just a guy in a goofy costume waving his hands.

Unless they couldn’t get Jake to film scenes - Mysterio should have been revealed to be alive and round out the Sinister Six line up. It’s low key funny that Sony did their first live action Sinister Six film with just 5 and two of them were throwaway characters (Lizard and Sandman) too.

this mysterio is very op. sm could barely take him in sm2. if he was part of a team sm would have no chance.

@grif - I mean not really. The only thing he had was peter drones, other than that he can barely do anything. He's basically just a fancy lights guy.
