SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME: New Stills Swing Onto The Web; Tom Holland Talks Working With Alfred Molina

As we collectively wait for a new trailer, a pair of awesome new stills from Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: No Way Home have swung online, offering a look at the wall-crawler with MJ and Doctor Strange!

To say Spider-Man: No Way Home is the most anticipated film in recent memory would be a massive understatement, and while a new trailer should be with us in just a few short weeks (presumably with the launch of Marvel Studios' Eternals or Sony's Ghostbusters: Afterlife), it looks like the marketing campaign is really about to kick it into high gear as Entertainment Weekly has shared a pair of awesome new stills featuring the wall-crawler in action.

With the first trailer confirming the involvement of Alfred Molina, who is set to reprise his iconic role as Doctor Octopus, the film's leading man Tom Holland was finally free to talk about working with the beloved actor, calling him, "one of my favorite people I've ever worked with."

He continues, "It was really fun to watch him see how technology has advanced," Holland adds. "When he was making these films, the arms were puppets, and when we did it, they're all imaginary and CG. It was quite cool to see him relive it, but also relearn it."

Holland unsurprisingly remained tight-lipped about the possible involvement of multiple Spider-Men played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, but did say that he and director Jon Watts found the third installment to be a lot less stressful than the previous two. "The first film, [director] Jon Watts and I were sort of flying by the seat of our pants. This one, I think we both felt really confident, so we were able to relax. We actually had so much more fun on this one than we did on the previous two."

Holland also touched on the unbreakable bond he's built with co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon over the course of this amazing five-year run, and seemingly alluded to this film possibly being the end of his run as Spider-Man (which seems hard to believe considering his immense popularity and rumored fourth film). He noted a moment where the three friends recognized the special journey they've been on.

"We've been making these films for five years now. We've had such an amazing relationship, the three of us. We've been with each other every step of the way. We've done every single film, every single press tour. So this one scene, [we didn't know] if this would be the last time [we were all working together.] [It] was heartbreaking but also really exciting because we're all moving into the next chapter of our careers. So sharing that moment with them was maybe the best day I've ever had on set. I don't think I've cried like that ever."

Tom Holland will headline the feature with a confirmed supporting cast that will consist of Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, Angourie Rice as Betty Brant, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Hannibal Buress as Coach Wilson, Martin Starr as Mr. Harrington, J.B. Smoove as Mr. Dell, J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, Benedict Wong as Master Wong, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange; with Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina reprising their roles as Electro and Doctor Octopus, respectively, from the earlier Spider-Man films.

Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Kirsten Dunst, Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Thomas Haden Church, and Charlie Cox have all also been rumored to reprise their roles from the previous Spider-Man movies and the Daredevil TV series, respectively, although nothing has been confirmed just yet...

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to swing into theaters worldwide on December 17.

Oh, and something about a squid or octopus.

They'll pull an "Avengers" with the MCU Spider-Man. Take a long break, but get back to making more. At least once Disney and Sony renews the contract.

In the meantime, he's still got one more feature in a future MCU movie left in his contract, and I fully expect him to be in Venom 3.

In the off chance this really is the last Tom Holland Spider-Man movie... It's been Swell.

I will walk out of the movie theater if the Eternals has a new Spiderman trailer, and I’ll come back in when it’s over, I mean the whole movie. And I watch something that definitely doesn’t have the trailer, like 50 Blinds of Venice

I’m hyped for this like I was for Endgame, but it kinda saddens me that they didn’t put the effort to bring back the tentacle puppets :/ CGI is great and everything when done right but they can never capture the same magic when they incorporate practical effects. I know CGI takes less time and is more practical but when you Love your craft you do anything to make the best movie possible and I bet any other seasoned director would have brought the puppets back.

Also those stills are cool lol

As when then incorporate practical effects*

So the tentacles won't look as good as they did back in 2004 right?

@Fares

That was my first thought when Tom mentioned the “technology now.”

🤦🏼‍♂️

Do practical when you can!

Nightwing1015 - 10/14/2021, 9:53 AM
@Fares - Why wouldn't they? If they didn't tell you it was CGI you probably wouldn't even know these days.

Also, back in 2004 there were several CGI shots with them so I don't even know what Tom is talking about.

@Fares - CGI has come a long way in 17 years...
Fares
Fares - 10/14/2021, 10:01 AM
@Nightwing1015 - By no means do I think that a CG apporach can't result in photorealistic tentacles with realistic animation. But judging by the precedent of various CG Spidey and Iron Man shots in recent years, I doubt they're gonna put enough time and care into it to acheive the desired results, especially that there are at least 4 other different characters that need VFX in this movie.
Fares
Fares - 10/14/2021, 10:02 AM
@Himura - The technology certainly has, but the studios' willingness to invest proper time and care into it certainly has not.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 10/14/2021, 10:06 AM
@Fares - But they're CGI in a ton of scenes in Spider-Man 2 and they looked great. 17 years later they will be even better. They look fine in the trailer for example.
Fares
Fares - 10/14/2021, 10:16 AM
@Nightwing1015 -They looked good for the time, and Sony potentially put more care into the scenes back then they they do now. CG spidey in Homecoming and Far From Home certainly wasn't on par with what they could've delivered 17 years later. I sure hope it looks better in Far From Home. I wasn't blown away by the vfx in the trailer personally, it certainly didn't look crappy. But it didn't reach the "Dock Ock holding a drink with his practical tentacles" level of awesome. Of course, some scenes can't be done practically and I don't expect them to be done so, but I was hoping for some practicality for the more subdued utlization of the tentacles.

That picture of Spider-Man and Dr. Strange is the shit we dreamed about as kids. I feel like I get numb to it sometimes but these crossovers are still surreal to see

DarkDetective - 10/14/2021, 10:16 AM
@OmegaDaGrodd - then you see idiots saying "spiderman shouldnt be working with other heroes". Like, thats been a thing since the beginnings of the character. I get why you would want spiderman to be independent, but we had that shit for 15 years before Holland.
