SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star [SPOILER] Reveals Scene That Brought Them Back To The Franchise

Tobey Maguire mostly keeps himself to himself these days, so we've yet to hear his thoughts on returning as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Andrew Garfield has, however, been able to break down his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as the Amazing Spider-Man, including what specifically led to him agreeing to join the threequel.

It's no secret Sony Pictures pulled the rug from under the actor when he was playing Spider-Man, as there had been plans for two more sequels and a Sinister Six movie before Tom Holland replaced him. With that in mind, no one would have blamed Garfield for wanting to leave the role behind him.

However, talking to Happy Sad Confused, Garfield revealed that there was one idea, in particular, that led to him knowing this was the right place to suit up as Spider-Man again.

"I went to their offices, and they said, 'Well, this is what we want to do. We think it can really work. We don't have a script yet. We don't want it to be like a stunt thing,'" the actor recalled. "'We don't want it to be like a kind of a cameo, like a quick in and out. We want it to be actually in service to Tom's journey as Peter and in service to both of your different Peters and we really think there's something really interesting to explore about when these three lone wolves who think they're alone in the universe in their own singular experience of being Spider-Man come together.'"

"The main image that they pitched me was catching Zendaya, catching MJ," Garfield said of what it was that sold him on the movie. "That was the first page I saw and I was like, 'There's no way of not doing this,' because that's profound. That's a profound moment like an older brother saving his little brother from his same fate across the universe. If that portal hadn't been opened up, and my Peter Parker hadn't been there at that moment, it's arguable that he would have had the same fate."

"You suddenly get into this incredible cosmic, meant-to-be destined moment where I get to heal the worst trauma in my life while simultaneously saving my little brother from having to experience that same trauma. Suddenly you're in very mythic territory, and it's just profoundly beautiful."

The moment Garfield's Spider-Man saved MJ was among the scenes that drew cheers from fans in movie theaters, and it served as redemption for Peter after he failed to rescue Gwen Stacy.

With that, the stage has been set for the wall-crawler to have a much brighter future in his world after heading down a dark path in his own. Fans remain optimistic that's going to be explored in some manner, something Garfield has expressed interest in making a reality on multiple occasions.

I hated his second movie, still believe is the worst spidey film ever, but he really redeemed himself to become the favorite Spiderman for many, including me. And that's thanks to the person who wrote that great scene and his brilliant performance, this movie really was a love letter to the character in every way possible.

@jarcastanon - Garfield was always underrated as Peter, in my opinion, and I think his first movie is... fine. It's a good enough foundation that could have been built on. But that second movie was just such an incredible trainwreck, it's almost impressive to see a film destroy the momentum for a franchise so thoroughly. Even some genuinely powerful performances are completely overshadowed by everything else wrong with that movie...

I'm really happy to see him get a happy capstone on his Spider-Man experience (if this ends up being his last appearance) and to see so many people finally embrace him fully.

Just saw this deleted scene from Amazing Spiderman 2, where Peter's Dad is still alive and after the Osbornes die, he comes out of hiding to deliver the "With Great Power" to Peter to help him heal from Gwen.

This Peter getting the line from his Dad kinda makes me wish they referenced this deleted scene in No Way Home, so all 3 Peter's got the line from different relatives during different transformative periods of them "becoming" Spiderman.

Maaaann... If Peter lost May and MJ on the same day, he would've turned out like this the next morning...

TASM2 wasn't the best movie but Gwen's death was really well done. That was probably the first idea they had for the movie and developed the rest of the movie revolving around it

I have to say that scene was very heart warming to have him save MJ. I rewatched TASM2 and that scene where Gwen dies is probably the best acting in that whole movie. You really feel for Peter in that tragic moment and in No Way Home you get the same feels but you’re happy for him to redeem himself but you still feel his sadness in that moment as well.
Maybe that’s just my take on that.

I ain't going to lie, that scene brought me to tears. Having all three Spider-Men together could've easily ended up as a cheesy fan service mess, but Toby and Andrew's inclusion served a purpose to the story and everything about it just worked.

It's been a while since I've seen a movie that's left me so full of joy after seeing it. No Way Home did that for me.
